Abstract

RESLIFE NEWSLETTER FALL TERM 19/20 STUDENT HOUSING & RESIDENTIAL LIFE RESIDENCE MASTERS' CUP FALL TERM 2019/2020 Ranking as of Fall Term 2019/20 1st Place: UG Hall VIII 2nd Place: Jockey Club Hall 3rd Place: UG Hall III

The Residence Masters' Cup, an annual inter-hall competition, is officially launched in RY19/20. A sub-organizing committee, which is formed by ten residents, helps organising a total of six inter-hall competitions throughout the residential year. The Grand RM Cup will be awarded to the Hall that has the best performance throughout the series of the year and pass it on to the next Champion in the following year.

The RM Cup kicked off its first Archery Tag Competition on 10 October 2019. Each of the ten UG Halls formed a team of 10 mixed gender members to compete with other halls. To win the game, the teams must tag their opponents with their bows and arrows to score. The Residence Masters, Hall Tutors and residents were thrilled to cheer for the teams. After rounds of exciting races, UG Hall VIII became the champion of the competition.

The Cooking Contest was the second competition of the RM Cup that was held on 31 October 2019. Each competing ha ll team, comprising up to five residents, was required to use pumpkin or carrot to make their signature dish within 40 minutes. The winner finally went to UG Hall VIII again as they presented 'Gordon Risotto', a fusion dish that combined pumpkin risotto with sweet and sour fried pork, which was said to be inspired by Gordon Ramsey's TV shows!

More exciting competitions will be organised in the Spring Term. Stay tuned with us for the Dodgebee Competition in February, Photography & Video-taking Competition and Singing Contest in March and Orienteering Competition in April.

ResLife LOUNCE Our Reslife Lounge is where you can ask and get the latest news of Res life activities! It is just located one floor below UG Hall IX near the Gym Room. Starting from Spring term, residents can always drop by to chat with our staff and play Nintendo Switch and board games with others from 10 am to 5 pm.

Apart from that, we will also organise a lot of small-scale activities in the Lounge such as cooking class and workshops. Stay tuned with us for more reslife activities.

Our Office opens from 9 am to 5:30 pm.

COMFORT PAWS The Comfort Paws Program is officially launched in Fall Term 2019 to let residents gain support from animals and raise their awareness on animal issues in Hong Kong. In this Program, residents can come to our mingling sessions called 'Dog Dog Stations' and say hello to our two lovely dogs, Romeo and Gahan. Residents are always welcomed to come whenever they are free, having a break or just simply get a hug from our dogs.

The Program has also invited some NGOs to share their work on animal welfare and animal assisted service. For example, the Sai Kung Stray Friends was invited on 18 September to give a talk about stray dog issues in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Institute of Animal Assisted Intervention (HKIAAI) was also invited on 16 October to hold a relief activity and provided residents some basic information on what 'animal assisted service' is and the do-and-don'ts when having fun with dogs.

In the future, the Program will keep on having mingling sessions with residents and more interactions with other local NGOs. With animals, we could feel more love around campus. With you, we could do more for our animals' life.
