Message from the Editor

What seemed to be a 'mission impossible' has finally become possible with the first publication from the provisional Editorial Board of this term in print finally. In retrospect, it was only in early August that we officially became members of the Provisional Editorial Board; it was not until late August that we had completed the interviews with the two presidents. This book would not have become a reality, had it not been for the collective effort from the cabinet as we accompanied each other on this difficult and nonetheless determined 」ourney throughout the sub-committee functions, the various unexpected problems and endless examinations. While this experience marks one of the most memorable moments of my university life, I remain infinitely indebted to the two presidents, all of our cabinet members and everyone who has contributed to the publication of this book. Attentive readers will notice on the cover two big words 'Goodbye' and 'Hello'一these serve as a fond farewell to Prof. Tony F. Chan as well as a warm welcome to Prof. Wei Shyy. These two words also embody the new direction of the provisional Editorial Board. Compared to other local universities, HKUST has a relatively shorter history of 27 years and yet this is also one of many reasons why we are left with fewer constraints and fewer conflicts of interest. In fact, the 27 years have witnessed the efficient creation of new curriculums, the relentless exploration of new teaching methodologies and the smooth implementation of new ideas. Much as we owe these remarkable achievements to the trailblazers of the past with their 'Can-do Spirit'; we are constantly being tested in our ability to adhere to creation and innovation as our university matures alongside the emergence of many precedents. After all, what distinguishes a locally-renowned university from a world-class one may well be the drive for excellence, the courage to break out of the comfort zone and the audacity to embrace 'creative disruption''. In view of this, the provisional Editorial Board this year also said goodbye to some conventional methods of creating this publication in our endeavour to better serve the members of the Students' Union. First, due to the internationalization of the university, many non-Chinese speaking students are becoming an increasingly visible and vibrant part of our community. To better meet their needs, we have translated appropriate informative articles this year. While most readers' submissions and artistic literature have proved difficult to translate, a more inclusively bilingual edition will be the future direction of Wings. Second, instead of ambitiously incorporating a variety of articles into one single edition, all the regular publications of the provisional Editorial Board this year will be more selective in their choice of articles with a focus on issues affecting the university, the affiliated societies of the SU and the society beyond so that each publication will feature a distinct theme. Nevertheless, all submissions一rega rdless of their themes and forms一are welcome from our readers while helping them explore a specific topic in depth remains the goal of the provisional Editorial Board this year. Barack Obama once said, 'change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek:'As we bid farewell to our beloved president Prof. Tony F. Chan with gratitude for his nine years of dedication and welcome our new president Prof. Wei Shyy with best wishes for his leadership in the future, the provisional Editorial Board will strive for excellence along with the university to provide the best services for our members. In the firm belief that the innovative changes are what we have been waiting for, we will continue to say'Hello'to all the new policies that will drive us in the right direction. 時光飛逝，陳繁昌校長陪伴我們香港科技大學已有了 九年的時間。二零零九年至今，時間説多不多、説少不少， 但總算也為科大留下了屬於陳校長的印記。陳繁昌校長不 但在任內帶領科大過渡至「三三四」新學制、見證了鄭裕 彤樓和李兆基校園及李兆基商學大樓的落成， 更帶領科大 在二零一八年泰晤士報高等教育全球年輕大學排名中取得 第一。陳繁昌校長在本年九月＿日已成為了沙地阿拉伯阿 卜杜拉國王科技大學(King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, KAUST) 的新校長， 開展了他人生的新 －頁。九年前，本會訪問過新官上任的陳校長，並在本會 刊物振翅17 . 1 中刊出了陳校長對科大的願景。九年後綦然 回首， 我們香港科技大學學生會臨時編輯委員會再次訪問 了臨別的陳校長，讓這位和藹可親、笑容滿面的校長回顧 過往九年的點滴， 並在這本振翅26.1 中為他的校長生涯畫 上完美的句號。

Time flew before we realized that Prof. Tony F. Chan had been with us as the President of the HKUST for nine years. Since 2009, he has left his mark on this campus which bears testimony to his contributions. Prof. Tony F. Chan not only led us through the '334' new academic structure as well as the completion of the Lee Shau Kee Campus and Lee Shau Kee Business Building and the Cheng Yu Tung Building, but also led HKUST to take up the No. l position in the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings this year. To open a new chapter in his life, Prof. Tony F. Chan has taken office as the new President of the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Saudi Arabia since September 2018. Nine years ago, we conducted an interview with President Chan, where he shared his views with us on our publication Wings 17.1 . Nine years later in retrospect, the Provisional Editorial Board of the HKUSTSU was privileged again to have the last interview with him, hoping to mark the perfect ending for his presidency in HKUST in this issue of Wings 26.1.

振翅Wings 17.1 (2009) （僅限中文版 Chinese only) 006 最自豪的事？ 最自豪的事？ 對科大文化的貢獻 Proud achievements? ... The contribution to the HKUST culture 領導一間享負盛名的國際研究型 大學九年之久，令陳校長感到自豪的事 可謂不少。其中他特別提到的－項 就是對科大的文化和核心價值的貢獻。 他在和許多同事－同合作和徵詢各種意 見後設立了五個科大的核心價值1, 其中 「同－科大」(1 - HKUST) 和「凡事 皆可為的精神」(Can-do Spirit) 兩者更 為陳校長的提議。這兩個核心價值廣受 歡迎，學校不但依據科大的核心價值 舉辦了例如「My First Dinner@HKUST 」 和「O'Venture」等迎新活動（前者為一 個由校長和學生代表－同歡迎新生的活動， 後者則為－個全科大學生的迎新營） 校長本人亦和學生－同「夾band 」表演， 並推出1 - HKUST Award 鼓勵同學自發 舉辦活動推動同－科大的理念。能在塑 造大學和諧共融的氛圍和建立敢想敢做 的精神上下一些功夫，是校長其中一個 最為欣慰的回憶。

In his leadership of an international research and education institution for nine years, there are many milestones for President Chan to be proud of. One particular example he mentioned involves his contribution to the cultures and core values of the HKUST. After collaborating with colleagues and heeding suggestions from stakeholders, he gathered five core values for HKUST1. '1-HKUST' and the 'Can-do Spirit' in particular were his own initiatives and subsequently embraced by the university. Pursuant to the core values, a series of orientation events were held and they included 'My First Dinner@HKUST' -- an orientation dinner jointly hosted by the President and various student leaders and 'O'Venture' -- a University-wide orientation camp to promote the '1-HKUST' value. In addition, the President himself joined the students in the guitar performances and introduced the '1-HKUST Award' as an encouragement for students to take the initiative to organize activities. The effort to consolidate the cohesive culture and uphold the 'Can-do spirit' has marked one of the most memorable moments for the President.

香港科技大學的五個核心價值分別「追求卓越｀堅守誠信、維護學術自由」、「放眼全球發展，貢獻地方社會」、 「凡事皆可為的精神」、「和諧共融｀匯聚多元、彼此尊重」和「同一科大」。 The five core values of the HKUST are 'Excellence, Integrity, and Academic Freedom': 'Global Vision and Local Commitment': 'Can-do Spirit': 'Inclusive ness, Diversity, and Respect' and '1-HKUST'

收生政策 Proud achievements? ... The admission policy 另一方面，校長亦提到了他在任內對 於收生政策上的決定。科大作為＿所受 政府資助的大學，八成的本科生均須為 本地學生， 但是另外兩成的非本地生如 何組成就有不少理念上的爭議。＿種方 法是純粹用成績評分，另＿ 種方法則是 盡量提升學生的多樣性(Diversity) , 到 世界各地招收來自不同背景的同學。他 指出雖然現時某些大專院校接近所有的 非本地生都來自內地，但是校園內學生 背景的多元化對於同學培養國際視野丶 跳出固有框架(Echo Chamber) 思考來 説都非常重要。而且科大的國際認受性高， 足以吸引高質素的外地學生報讀，於是 決定在確保成績達標的前提下盡量多收 外國學生，並根據他們的學術表現每年 調整外國學生的人數。校長其後發現外 國學生的表現令人非常滿意，不少人都 能取得一級榮譽畢業，令校長非常驕傲。 Prof. Tony F. Chan also shared his experience in deciding the admission policy. As a government-funded university, 80% of HKUST's undergraduates should be undoubtedly local. By comparison, the composition of the other 20% remained controversial, with one possibility to rely on examination results as the sole criteria for admission and another possibility to promote the diversity of students as much as possible by appealing to students from diverse backgrounds. He further pointed out that although some tertiary education institutions' non-local students were mostly from Mainland China, the diversity of students would nonetheless nurture their global vision and help them jump out of the 'echo chamber''. Furthermore, given HKUST's worldwide reputation that had attracted high-quality students from around the globe, the university decided to admit as many international students as possible as long as the requirements were met. Subsequently, the number of international students admitted was reviewed and adjusted in relation to their overall academic performance on a yearly basis. The result turned out to be satisfactory as many international students had obtained first-class honours upon graduation, much to the delight of Prof. Chan.

最自豪的事？ 校園基建 Proud achievements? … The infrastructure 除了文化和收生這兩項之外， 陳 校長亦特別提到他對校園基建的貢獻。 他任內除了獲得香港賽馬會慈善信託 基金撥款支持興建「Jockey Club Global Graduate Tower」、在邵氏基金 （香港）有限公司的捐助下建設「多 用途大禮堂」和獲得李家誠先生支持 興建「李家誠創科大樓」， 新的學生 宿舍也已在籌措建設丶「水上活動中心」 亦在興建中。校長指他與不同的持份 者溝通後提出了不少改善校園基建的 構思，例如他留意到社會上有聲音認 為科大只有科技和商業， 並不需要音 樂表演的場地，但其實不少學生也奏 得－手好樂器，亦希望能一展他們的 音樂才華。為了促進科大的文藝氣息 和提供一個大型場地讓科大舉行不同 方面的活動，於是他便困出募捐興建 劇院給學生使用，現時已在籌建階段。 另一方面，科大的水上運動發展不俗， 他一直也希望活用科大沿海的優勢興 建水上活動中心讓同學們多加在清水 灣划划艇、扒扒龍舟，於是他努力向 捐款者和校董會解釋理念得以落實這 些基建，令他倍感光榮。

Apart from his involvements in university cultures and admission policy, Prof. Tony F. Chan also shared his contributions to HKUST's infrastructure. During his presidency, many philanthropists supported the construction of HKUST - in particular with the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust behind the development of the Jockey Club Global Graduate Tower, the Shaw Foundation Hong Kong Ltd behind the construction of a new multipurpose auditorium and Mr Martin Ka-Shing Lee behind the creation of the Innovation Building. Furthermore, new halls are under construction while the Water Sports Center is near completion. The President attributed most of the ideas of building new infrastructure to the discussions with stakeholders. For example, concerns were previously aired about HKUST's almost exclusive focus on technology and business, without a sufficiently artistic backdrop that ran counter to the fact that many students were proficient in playing musical instruments and desired more opportunities for practice and performance. To facilitate the creation of a humanistic atmosphere and to provide a larger venue for different types of activities, he sought donations in the fervent hope that students' lives could be further improved on campus. Similarly, considering that the watersports at HKUST had achieved phenomenal results in recent years, Prof. Chan took advantage of the coastal location of the campus by initiaing the construction of the Water Sports Center. The fact that most of these infrastructure projects are in development makes him extremely proud and honoured. ·-'」 對科大學生的印象 The impression of HKUST student 校長教學經驗豐富，任教過不同院校， 亦接觸過世界各地的人，對科大學生的 特色自然有自己的看法。他認為科大學 生務實而且有創意， 在有着大疆創新( DJI) 作為榜樣和大學對創業的支持下，陳校 長認為科大的學生亦有着相當熾熱蓬勃 的創業氛圍。另一方面，校長亦提到他 在和校外人士接觸時時常得到的反饋是 科大同學關心社會的同時也有着良好的 學術氣氛，表達意見的時候亦往往以比 較克制和平和的方式表達，甚少發生激 烈的衝擊行為，在公眾眼中有很不錯的 聲譽。 本地生 非本地生膈膜 The gap between local and international students 談及如何消除本地生和非本地生之間 的隔膜，校長認為尋找互相的共同點相 當重要。現時本地生和非本地生已為處 同一校園， 亦能説英文這個共通語言 (Common language) '校長提倡同學發 掘互相之間的共同興趣互相認識，例如 同學可以在運動、音樂的學會中找尋共 通點， 亦可以暢談對時事的看法。 With his experience teaching in many different institutions and his exposure to people from all around the world, Prof. Tony F. Chan has his own view of the students at HKUST. He thinks that HKUST students are practical and creative. With the role model of DJI and the support from the university, the entrepreneurship at HKUST is thriving. In addition一as remarked by President Chan一a common piece of feedback he received from outside of the university is that students at HKUST not only care about the society, but also have passion for academic pursuits. More notably, HKUST students are positively perceived by the public to have a propensity for expressing their political opinions in a respectful and rational manner. When it comes to bridging the gap between local and non-local students, President Chan observed that finding a common interest is vital. While students already share one campus and have a universal language一 English, it is important for them to know each other better by discovering common interests in such areas as sports, music or even current affairs to strengthen their bonds. 本地生非本地生隔膜 The gap between local and international students 問及語言隔膜(Language barrier) 的問題，校長認為若因為怯於以英文溝 通而窒礙了與外地學生的交流其實非常 短見。他指當年他自己和現時科大本地 生的情況剛好倒轉， 他中學畢業後便到 了美國讀書，縱使他在皇仁書院讀預科 的時候英文已全由英國人任教，但他甫 抵埗美國時也全然聽不懂當地語言。其 一當然是在港時日常生活不常用英文丶 其二則是英美口音問題，但最大的原因 其實是對當地文化的不熟悉。語言只是 － 種文化的表達，他舉例指剛開始聽棟 篤笑(Comedy) 節目的時候，就算明白 每一個生字的意思也不知道笑點何在， 於是就明白若你不認識一地的文化時事 根本不能與人溝通，校長當時於是便每 天追看如Johnny Carson 等人的脱口秀節 目，後來便逐漸對美國文化有更深入的 認識。另一方面， 他在美國生活時不但 主動認識來自不同背景的學生，即使後 來他成為教授後指導來自中國的學生時 也堅持以英文溝通，最後才習慣在英語 環境中生活。「語言學了以後很有用， 英文全世界的人也在説」。校長鼓勵同 學好好把握説英文的機會，留心聆聽別 人的説話，只要有決心學好英語這個國 際語言，定能進步神速、終身受益。 Addressing the issue of language barrier, he believes that it is short-sighted to refuse communication with non-local students merely due to unfomfortability in using English. When he first set foot on the U.S. soil for his university life, he found himself unable to communicate well, though his English had been taught by British teachers back in the Queen's College of Hong Kong. He traced part of the reason to the fact that he did not use English on a daily basis before arrival, and another part to the lack of familiarity with the American accent. The biggest reason perhaps lies in his lack of understanding of the American culture at the time- given that a language is an expression of a culture-even though he knew every word in a comedy show, he could not understand the jokes behind the laughs. He quickly learned that one must learn the culture and keep track of the current affairs of a place to fully understand what the locals were saying, and that was when he started watching comedies and talk shows such as Johnny Carson's show every day and understood American culture better over time. He also mentioned that it is by meeting with people from various cultures and sticking to the use of English on a daily basis even with his Chinese-speaking students that his English proficiency improved quickly afterwards. He encouraged students to seize all opportunities to speak and listen with the determination to master the international language—English一that would bring lifelong benefits.

穩定工作？

A stable job? 談及現時社會上有－ 種追求工作安穩 的風氣，校長指其實並非人人都需要一 份穩定的工作。社會上當然需要例如醫 生和律師等等專業人士作出貢獻， 但若 我們看美國的Google 、Amazon 和Apple 等最大的公司， 再看中國的騰訊、阿里 巴巴和百度等，全都不是由追求「鐵飯碗」 的人創辦出來的，即使偏離社會主流的「模 範人生路」有機會失敗，但至少也應該 嘗試去做一下不同的事情。我們的社會 需要多元化的發展，例如以前香港的電 影可以外銷到全世界、又有許多不同的 輕工業，但反觀現在香港的社會的多樣 性卻看似不比從前。立足科大， 「我們 已經是香港的尖子， 也是世界的一部分， 這個世界的未來需要由我們創造出來。」 縱使我們不能預知未來，但我們仍要為 自己的人生作決定，校長鼓勵我們放眼 世界、多加認識社會發展、把握機遇， 嘗試走出前人所未走過的路。 In view of the prevailing pursuit of a stable job in the society these days, the President said it is not necessary for everyone to keep a stable 」ob. While the society needs professionals like doctors and lawyers, household names such as Google, Amazon or Apple in the U.S. and Baidu, Alibaba, and Tencent in China have not been built by people seeking only job security. Although those who deviate from the well beaten path are seen as susceptible to failures, they at 丨east stand a chance of success by trying something different. In fact, different talents specializing in a wide array of areas are the driving force behind our society. Compared to the 'good old days' of Hong Kong where the film industry and the light industry thrived, it is lamentable that the diversity of our society has become seriously compromised with the survival of only a few industries. Based in HKUST, as elites of Hong Kong and concerned citizens of the world, we are what the future depends on for new ideas and new initiatives. Though no one can predict the future, everyone has decisions to make about his or her life. President Chan encouraged us to look beyond and keep abreast of social changes so that we can grasp the opportunities when they come and become competent in attempting things that no one has done before. 校園 怎樣看待毎－次的分離？ What do you think about leaving? 「天下無不散之筵席」，離離合合對 校長而言已不算陌生。校長指他自己的 性格是－個比較「Forward-looking 」和樂 觀的人，相比起追求穩定， 他自己無論 在做研究的方向又或是工作崗位， 每隔 十年左右都會「手痕」轉換－下方向， 接受新的挑戰和機會。他續指他作為科 大校長已有九年之久，為科大注入了屬 於自己的元素， 繼續做下去當然進一步 改進科大，但卻難以加入新的思維。現 時美國大學的校長平均任期僅約為七年， 如果科大有新的校長為校園帶來新人仕丶 新作風、新思維，對大學也是好事。 另一方面，他亦指他在香港土身土長， 其後又到了美國和回流香港任教了－段 時間，北美和東亞均有了他的足跡， 現 時中東地區的變化很大、逐漸開放和變 得世俗化，現時是－個很特別的時機， 亦是很特別的機遇讓他到沙地阿拉伯尋 求新的突破，挑戰自我。懷着「Can-do Spirit」到世界的另一邊參與當地的發展， 又何嘗不是人生的新挑戰？ As a Chinese saying goes, 'all good things must come to an end'; the experience of separation should not be unfamiliar to the President given his long history of teaching and working. He considers himself forward-looking and optimistic in that he likes to take new challenges both in his career and in his research every now and then. He explained that being the President of the HKUST for nine years, he had injected the university with many ideas of his own. Although improvements could still continue had he stayed on, it would be difficult to bring new thoughts to the university. Considering that the average term of the presidency at U.S. universities is merely seven years, it would be beneficial for the university if there is a new president to usher in new dynamics, new styles and new thoughts. Born and raised in Hong Kong, President Chan has taught in the U.S. and Hong Kong for a considerably long period of time, leaving his footprints in both North America and Asia. Given that the Middle East has become increasingly open and secularized, now is an exceptional timing for him to explore potentials and take on challenges to participate in the development of a Saudi Arabian university with the 'Can-do Spirit' in mind.

臨別贈言 Last words for students 雖然科大仍然相當年輕，但其實已經 建立起了一定的聲譽和地位、亦有自己的 獨特氣氛和文化，同學應該為作為科大學 生感到自豪。但同時同學們亦應努力做到 最好， 因為「同學們的成功就是科大的成 功， 而科大的成功亦能幫助到同學們」。 校長更強調我們現時身處的時代非常獨特 有趣＿亞洲逐漸成為世界的發展重心， 香港作為中國的國際城市具備獨特的歷史 和特性，機會處處。同學們現於香港其中 －個最國際化的大學之中， 可謂是「Special time and special place」。在這個「Special time and special place」之中，同學應想清 楚自己的定位和發展的方向。未來的世界 會如何轉變固然無人知曉，但是同學們並 不是－個旁觀者，而是共同編寫我們將來 的領航員。同學們應盡早思考自己貢獻社 會的方法，並為社會和自己的行為負責。

Despite a relatively short history, HKUST has already earned its reputation and status among the world's universities with its unique atmosphere and culture. While students should pride themselves on being part of HKUST, they should do their best because the success of HKUST comes from the progress made by the students, and benefits them in return. The President emphasized that the era we live in is an exciting and unique one as Asia has gradually become the epicenter of the world's development. Hong Kong, as a Chinese city with international characteristics and a unique history, is the place where opportunities abound. HKUST, as one of the most internationalized universities in Hong Kong, has naturally provided students with a 'special time and special place''. Even though no one can foresee the course of actions the future may take, no one should be observers of the changes either but rather decision makers on the course of actions leading to the future. Students should start thinking about their positions in the society in relation to their future developments as soon as possible while holding themselves accountable for the society as well as their individual behaviors upon graduation.

016 史維小檔案 校長換屆，對校園來説可以是牽一髮動全身。 過往歷屆校長平均在位九年，任期間，校園的建設 和發展無不與校長的理念相關。建校二十七年來， 不同時期的校長對於科大發展的理念和責任都不盡 相同。不知道新校長上任，會為學校帶來怎麼樣的 新方向，新理念？向陳繁昌校長道別後，科大亦要 翻開新－章。適逢換屆之期， 我們香港科技大學學 生會臨時編輯委員會邀請了新校長談談他對於科大 現在和將來的一些看法， 讓同學可以藉此了解這位 新校長和他的理念。 A change in presidency could impact any university significantly. On average, former presidents have served HKUST for about nine years. During their time here, their beliefs and preferences could substantially affect the future of the school. As a young university with only 27 years of history, we have undergone various stages of development, with diverse visions at different presidencies. Goodbye to Tony and hello to our new president Wei Shyy. As we know, HKUST is gaining recognition around the globe, so what is the next goal or mission? At this meaningful moment, we, the provisional Editorial Board of HKUSTSU, would like to interview President Shyy to share his views on HKUST and its future. Our students can thereby know more about our new president and his beliefs.

台灣出生和長大的史維校長，於－九七七 年國立清華大學修畢機械動力工程理學 士後，八十年代前往美國密歇根大學( The University of Michigan) 攻讀航天工程學 碩士及博士學位。之後任職於美國通用 電器研發中心擔任硏究科學家，亦在佛 羅里達州大學及密歇根大學校擔任過航 天工程學系主任，及後在二零一零年出 任科大首席副校長及機械工程學系講座 教授至今。他於今年九月－日履新，成 為科大第四任校長。 About President Wei Shyy Prof. Wei Shyy is the 4th president of HKUST starting from the 1st of September, 2018. As a native Taiwanese, Prof. Wei Shyy attended college at National Tsing-Hua University and went on to earn his MSE and Ph.D. degrees in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Michigan (UM). He then served in General Electric (GE) Research and Development Centre in New York. Before joining HKUST as the Provost and Chair Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering in 2010, he was Clarence L. 'Kelly' Johnson Collegiate Professor and Chairman of the Department of Aerospace Engineering in the University of Michigan.

Campus 「我們不差， 但可以做得更好。」 科大的排名近年來表現不錯，史校長覺得我們應該為 此感到自豪，「尤其是我們還那麼年輕」。排名可以引起 市民關注、有利招生和招聘教授，但他坦言僅以排名一個 數字去衡量－所大學並不夠科學化。很多時候，市民只想 知道名次，「但我們要看得再深入－點」。史校長説，學 校會參考排名的評分準則和科大的相關表現檢討自己，知 道校外機構是如何評估大學，但不會把排名看作是最重要 和唯一的目標。「知道自己是在某一個range 裏面就好了」。 然而，有些因素很難被量化，卻對學校很重要，例如學生 的快樂程度、歸屬感和傳統文化等。史校長回憶在密歇根 大學讀書時觀看校隊比賽時場面之動容、氣氛之濃郁，至 今仍津津樂道。他現在還不時關注母校的球賽，懷緬昔日 經歷。畢業後，不同時期的校友們仍能以共同回憶連繫 彼此，一脈相承。校長希望學生可以在科大渡過一個難忘 的大學生活，畢業以後可以自豪地説出．「It was a good time」。提升學生的歸屬感，「會是科大想繼續向前走的 大方向」。 「我們的學生都很不錯」，史校長説，科大的學生從 不同的激烈競爭中脱穎而出，「能力差不到哪裏去」，不 少行業領袖都曾讚賞科大學生出色的工作能力。另外創業 方面近年來大放異彩，由科大生創辦的大疆創新(OJI) 在世界範圍內獲得認可，成為無人機領域的領導者(Market Leader) , 是真正的創新，更有人形容OJI 為當年的蘋果。 雖然學生的水準不錯，但史校長坦言「科大生有時對自己 不夠信心」。「我不同意我們學校是University of Stress and Tension 」，只是學生對這個標籤習以為常，總覺得自 己是比較不幸的－群。校長説他曾經比較過不同的本地大 學的教學模式和派放一級榮譽的比例，不覺得科大是特別 嚴苛的，很多時候或許只是學生想多了，活在沉重的心理 壓力之中。史校長希望學生「要對自己的能力有多點信心」。 親手撕下那些負面的標籤，這是科大生需要跨過的心坎。 'We are not bad, but we could be better. ' HKUST performs satisfactorily in various university rankings, and President Shyy thinks we should be proud of this. However, he believes that we should not use the university rankings as the overarching measurement to evaluate a school. Quantitative measures are insufficient to compare schools with different positionings holistically, and comparisons with past rankings should not be overemphasized. 'Knowing that we are within a certain range is good enough: 'Some factors are widely considered pivotal to the school as a whole but difficult to measure, for instance, happiness, sense of belonging, and culture. President Shyy recalled watching the soccer games at the University of Michigan back in his old days when students were keen to compete with their rivals, and the cheering was deafening. That was a life-long memory for him and his fellow students. Even though graduated for decades, he is still passionate about what is happening in the UM soccer team and checks for updates on his phone at times. These common memories shared among his schoolmates and him last forever. President Shyy hopes that our alumni can recall their time here as 'It was a good time:' 'The sense of belonging is what we have to work on in the future:' 'HKUST students are good;' says President Shyy, they have all proven themselves from competitive examinations all over the world. 'It is obvious that their academic excellence is above a certain 丨evel:'In addition to this, many industry leaders credited HKUST alumni for their performance at work. With the recent boom in entrepreneurship, DJI has successfully reached out to the world and become the market leader in drones. 'It is truly innovative, and some even compare it to Apple in its early stages: “Our students are good but not confident enough;' says President Shyy. 'I disagree that HKUST is the University of Stress and Tension:' We take this label for granted and use it to explain our 'suffering:' However, when President Shyy compared various parameters, like the teaching methods and the percentage of First-class honor recipients with other universities, it turns out HKUST is not as miserable as we believed. Sometimes, students trick themselves and suffer from this imaginary mental burden. Hopefully, we can have more faith in ourselves, and escape these fake labels.

「我們打算……」 「大與好，可不是同一樣東西」 科大目前以工學院、工商管理學院和理學院規模最大， 之後人文社會科學學院(SHSS) 的規模則相對較小。校 長表示科大人文社科的佈局跟加州理工學院(CalTech) 和麻省理工學院(MIT) 很像，「MIT 作為理工學校，有 很出色的心理學和經濟學，要看看他能貢獻甚麼價值」。 「大與好，可不是同＿樣東西」，雖然學校暫時沒有計劃 把SHSS 擴充到跟工學院，商學院一樣大，但一直有提供 多於規模本身的額外資源予SHSS 發展，也讓不同學院的 同學接受博雅教育。學術多樣化方面，「沒有醫學院和法 律學院並不是致命的，這不表示我們不做醫學和法律的相 關教學和研究。」相比起從頭開始建立新學院，校長覺得 與其他大學和機構合作才是最具效益的方案，這樣我們可 以專注在自己擅長的領域，但同時不失多樣性。 「我希望科大有地鐵站。」 科大生日夜飽受交通堵塞的困擾，史校長表示學校現 正積極與港鐵和政府商討興建地鐵站事宜，「雖然需要很 長時間規劃，但是相當重要」。另外，現時科大有十個本 科生宿舍，提供約4500 個宿位。然而全校有過萬個學生， 不僅有很多同學動輒需用—至兩小時上學，為數不少的新 生也未能體驗住宿文化。史校長説，在政府的－百億元宿 舍發展基金撥款下，學校會興建至少一千四百個宿位，如 果在外募款成功，則會興建更多宿位。 'It depends on how we do. ' Having a smaller department does not necessarily mean it is weak'' Currently, School of Engineering, School of Business, and School of Science are the primary schools in HKUST, followed by School of Humanity and Social Science (SHSS). 'We do not have a plan of expanding SHSS yet,' President Shyy said, but having a relatively small department does not necessarily mean it is weak. The school is giving HSSU additional resources to develop. Our strategy in developing the SHSS is similar to CalTech's and MIT's. Even though MIT put the high emphasis on science and technology, they also have great psychology and economics departments. It is all about how much they can contribute but not the diversity without depth. 'Not having medical and law school is not harmful to us. We still undergo research and teachings related to these areas: 'President Shyy believes collaborating with other universities and departments is the most effective and efficient way to impact other industries. 'This approach allows us to pursue diversity while focusing on our edge;' he said. 'I hope we have MTR Students in HKUST suffering from traffic congestion is a regular occurrence. President Shyy said the school is now in a close conversation with MTR and the Government to discuss this matter, 'It may take a long time, but it will worth it:' Although HK UST currently has ten undergraduate halls, offering around 4,500 places, and yet we have around 10,000 UG students. Not only some UG students with long commute hours could not get to live in dorms, but quite a lot of first-year students are also unable to taste the university residential life. He said, as the government is giving the university a new subsidy, we are going to have 1,400 or more places for undergraduate students soon.

園 「學生成功，學校便成功。」

對於最近科大學生轟動社會的事件，史校長覺得大家 過分在意並不是好事，這個年代的年輕人不太一樣，即使 跟老師約定了但不出席也是常有的事情，「畢竟年輕人有 時真的想不到太多」。他固然不是支持這種行為，只是覺 得大家要從這件事找出問題，耐心解決。另一方面，大學 生應該更有同理心，了解到自己被視為成年人的這個身分。 同時亦要了解到並不是人人都可以讀大學，「要去尊重大 學生這個身份」。當被問到年輕人應該要有的社會責任時， 他説年輕人不能一味抱怨現狀，要想辦法解決社會問題， 比如大家都買不到樓，要想想辦法怎麼解決。 「我當首席副校長(Provost) 八年，我們絕大部分的 時間都花在提升本科教育上。」史校長坦言，因為本科教 育的要求較高，目標相對研究更多元化，所以認理起來比 較複雜、困難。他覺得，本科經歷對年輕人影響深遠，不 只是學校如何教導學生，而是學生在課堂學習了些甚麼， 在這段時間怎麼體會的－切。國際化是科大的特點之一， 「國際化是為了讓本地學生拓闊視野」，即使不離開香港， 科大學生也可以認識不同國家的人，了解各國的文化，我 們應該好好利用這特點去得到更豐富的本科經歷。 説到現在的社會和校長以前當大學生時的社會有何分別， 史校長認為，跟現在比起來，以前香港的資源和設備比較 貧乏，例如香港只有－ 所大學，絕大多數建築物並沒有冷 氣。那時同儕間的競爭比較激烈，只有相當少數人可以進 入大學。當時的大學生比較天真，沒有太考慮將來的規劃。 現在這些情況都並不一樣。亞洲國家和地區數十年間掘起， 「能夠在資源和設備與歐美园家相提並論，這是三， 四十 年前遠遠不可想像的。」。他表示，現在的大學生比以往 更有獨立思想，掌握的資訊亦比以往更全面，可以好好利 用當下的機遇取得成功。他表示，現在社會對創新科技比 以往有更多需求。香港政府很久以來首次大力推動經濟轉 型，發展創新科技，也承諾會在此投放大量資源。商界亦 積極和應，例如幾乎全部大地產商都很有興趣與科大合 作，而有些醫院亦希望合作，以提升服務質素。校長對香 港社會的未來發展很有信心。另外， 內地早已不是吳下阿 蒙，發展一日千里。雖然礙於市民對內地政治的看法，「內 地大灣區( Greater Bay Area ) 對我們來説可能是很困難的 話題」，但是學生應該保持開放的態度，可以先了解，找 到相互合作的地方，再決定是否參與也不遲，「我們應該 多辦點交流活動去讓學生自己去體驗體驗」。 「學生成功，學校便成功。」史校長覺得學校的主要 目的是提供一個有利學生成長的環境，令學生進來科大以 後有所增值。參加學生活動， 可以讓學生擁有更多經歷， 認識更多朋友，亦有更多共同回憶，對學生造成深遠的影縐。 「學生會是學生的，我們是支持學生的，學生會是獨立的J' 然而史校長也認為有時候學生不了解學生會的運作，「大 家有意見」。學校希望培養學生的領導能力以推動學生活動， 他最希望看到學生代表為學校作出貢獻可以獲得同學的尊重。 史校長鼓勵學生多舉辦不同活動，展覽和比賽，「找學校 談吧，我們很樂意資助和支持學生」。「目的不只是活動 本身，而是活動期間的交流和共同回憶」，希望大家對科 大有更多歸屬感。 説到學生發展，史校長希望學生不要侷限於自己的 主修科目。「我們雖然是提供專業訓練( Professional Training) , 但不是職業學校( Professional school ) 」。雖 然花了四年光陰，好不容易才得到學位，但不一定要從事 相關的工作，「You can do many other things」。「你們不 要剛畢業便找一份工資，前景不錯的工作，而是做你 .望 的事情( something you long for ) 」。雖然學校鼓勵學生創業， 但更重要的是有那份創業精神．知道任何事情都有改進的 空間並願意嘗試。 'With the success of students comes the success of the university. ' In respect to the attention drawn to HKUST students on orientation camp sponsorship, president Shyy said: 'It's not good to dwell on this matter:' This generation is quite different from its predecessor; it is common nowadays for students to unobligate their appointment with their teachers. He said students need to be more empathetic, understand that they are in a situation where they are treated as adults but not necessarily bear the responsibilities as adults. 'Try to respect this identity (university student)'When asked about what kind of social responsibilities should student bear, he thinks we should not always complain about a situation without coming up with a solution, for example, how to deal with the skyrocketing housing price in Hong Kong. 'During my experience of being a provost here, the school has always put a high priority on undergraduate education'.' As the requirement is high and diverse compared to postgraduate and research studies, undergraduate education is difficult and complicated to handle. He admitted its difficulty but showed great passion in providing a better experience for students. 'Undergraduate experience would have profound impacts on teenagers. It is not about how we teach you, what you have learned in class, but how you perceive everything around you'.' The international environment is a characteristic of HKUST, 'Globalisation can help widen the horizon of students'. You do not necessarily need to go abroad to know people from other countries; everything is already here. Try to make the most of this feature to enrich your undergraduate life. On the topic of the differences between now and when he was a university student, President Shyy said that Hong Kong used to have fewer resources and wasn't as competitive. For instance, there was only one university in Hong Kong, and almost every building wasn't air-conditioned. The competition between students was very fierce with just a few university degrees quota. University students were carefree and would not plan much for their future. However, things have improved substantially. Asian countries have grown tremendously, 'it was a pipe dream to compare to the western world in the past:' Nowadays, the younger generation is more independent and can access information easily; they can explore more opportunities than ever. Our society has a higher demand for technology and innovation, President Shyy said, it has been a long time since the Hong Kong government last funded technological developments, but now they are giving us many resources to use. President Shyy noted that many prominent real estate groups and hospitals had shown a keen interest in working with us for technological improvement. President Shyy is hopeful for the future of Hong Kong. Similarly, Mainland China has grown immensely in recent years. Although Hong Kong citizens are wary of the politics in China, 'the Greater Bay Area issue could be a difficult topic' to us. However, students are encouraged to be open-minded, be compassionate with others, and 'students should build more relationships with people outside this university:' 'With the success of students comes the success of the university:' President Shyy thinks the school should provide an environment for students to grow, increasing the value of being in this university. Speaking of student activities, 'Students' Union is operated by students and is independent; we will always support its operation:' However, the president shows his worry about some students do not know what the Student Union does and have varying opinions about it. 'I love students contributing to the school. However, before that, we need to develop their leadership, to earn respect from their fellow students: This is your school:' President encourages students to initiate different activities, exhibitions, and competitions. When asked about student development, President Shyy hopes students are not limiting themselves to their major 'Though we provide professional training and in-depth education, we are not a vocational school:' It is not easy to spend four years to earn a degree, but after that 'you can still pursue work in other areas: 'Do not satisfy yourself with a decent salary and stable future, do something you long for: Although the school encourages students to join startups, it indeed wants students to uphold their entrepreneurship spirits deep inside their hearts. 'As university students, you should believe in yourself. You have to be pretty smart to have made it this far. Everyone in HK UST should think about how to make these four years worthy and grow as a person. HKUST is yours; I hope everyone can feel at home here, interact and learn from students from all over the world. The road ahead is difficult, strive to do what you want, don't let the worry of the future affect your judgment and studies. If anyone has any questions, you can talk to me. 時光飛逝，又是開學的時間，甫張開眼睛，已是 大學二年級了。在寫這篇文章的時候還沒有開學，但

都快了，剛度過了大學第一個暑假，也是筆者所度過 最悠長的一次暑假。光陰似箭，與其不斷花時間回望 過去，何不張開心扉，迎接未來丶對未來説「您好」？ 珍惜未來、活得更好，已是對過去的一種尊重。 展望校園生活 放眼未來，筆者希望來年可以花更多時 間投身於校園生活中。説實話，在過去的－年， 筆者花在校園生活的時間實在不多，看着身 邊的朋友一個又一個上莊、做Sub-Com , 自 己卻是非學校群組的－位成員，對自己可能 和UST 脱節， 實在感到無比的慚愧和擔憂。 因此，校園生活在筆者的Year 2 生涯中一定 會擔當一個尤其重要的角色。 對於校園生活，筆者認為不僅只是上莊 或者是Sub-Com, 或者是這兩樣東西完全不 適合我吧I 筆者是－個需要早睡早起的人， 這兩件事情，坦白説筆者都曾經嘗試過， 但 對於－個習慣早睡早起的人要180 度改變， 把自己的生活變成日夜顛倒，犧牲實在極大。 筆者絕非不願意犧牲，但若有損健康實在得 不償失，所以筆者最終還是選擇坦然離開， 不帶走一片雲彩。 由是觀之，筆者還是適合一些和上莊截 然不同的活動， 例如Gym 、游泳、和朋友吃 飯聚會等。

改變學業狀況 除了校園生活，筆者還希望自己的學業 情況能夠從「危殆」轉為「穩定」。有人説 大學就是「任你玩四年」（因有前輩説這五 個字和university 的發音相似，至於是否相似 就見仁見智吧） ， 但玩歸玩，千萬不要玩到「被 quit U 」。筆者的成績並沒有差到「被quit U 」 的地步，可也有很大的上升空間。回望自己 在Year 1 的學業情況，真的是有－種「往事 不堪回首」的感覺。原因呢，也許當中20% 是輕視了大學的學業· 當時根本不知道爛 Grade 科就像便利店一樣無處不在，以為輕 輕鬆鬆就可以B range , 結果卻是C range; 而另外的80% 就是不適應大學制度．選科上 太多失誤，或許是少不更事吧· …·不管怎樣， 都已經過去了，新的－年，調整心態、做足 準備，但求無愧於心。

做好準備是必須，但不要以此過分強求 成功，這世界往往都是成事在天。筆者早於 8 月20 日已經為自己訂造了＿個合適的上課 時間表，而且還有後備方案。殊不知到了8 月21 日早上， 筆者到Student Center 查看自 己選科時段的時候， 驚見自己的時段竟然是 Year 2 學生中最遲的（即8 月24 日的中午 12:30) ; 到了8 月24 日12 時30 分，筆者 盡自己的本分準時登入Student Center , 但 一切為時已晚， Plan A 和Plan B 合共12 科 有8 科需要等，已經無法挽救.. 寫到這裏，旁邊的編輯對筆者説「有 Year 4 師兄因為選不到心儀的科目最終無法 如期畢業， 要defer 。」如此個案應非冰山一 角， 校方固然要考慮避免惡性循環的不斷產生， 始終這是關乎到公平性的問題，大家都是交 －年42,100 元的學費，有人可以讀到心儀的 科目，有人卻與筆者和那Year 4 師兄一樣， 實在不太合理。然而，在校方能夠取得平衡 之前，大家還是為自己制訂後備方案，以策 萬全。 無論如何，總而言之，希望新的學年， 大家在學業上都可以百尺竿頭、更進一步

靜待緣分 校園生活和學業成績的重要性是毋庸置 疑的，但遇見了珍惜自己的人同樣值得自己 去珍惜。筆者常常在想，與其找一個自己愛 的人，倒不如找一個愛自己的人。筆者沒有 拍過拖，但都知道什麼是好什麼是壞， 找一 個自己愛的人根本不難，難的是要讓他／她 同樣對自己傾心，所謂「易求無價寶，難得 有情人」。筆者見到很多身邊的朋友找到自 己愛的人作為女朋友，但問題是女朋友的態 度十分冷淡， 表現得愛理不理， 二人一起外 出根本不會有人相信這是情侶關係。由此 可見，未經互相了解單憑一己之直覺找尋另 －半其實十分危險，某程度上是引火自焚， 所以為了自己的未來幸福着想（許多人都説 大學是尋找終身伴侶的地方） ， 筆者還是希 望可以在新的學年找一個愛自己的人，好讓 自己的心靈有所寄託。當然，緣來緣去無法 控制，但筆者相信，如果有一個愛自己的人 在自己面前，筆者會願意為「她」而改變， 抓緊「她」，不讓「她」離去.. . 在上－個暑假，筆者也和其他人一樣， 憧憬着大學的生活，等待着那個溫柔體貼丶 清純可人的「她」出現在我的面前，和「她」 相知相戀相依，那感覺就像羅大佑《神話》 中的一句歌詞．「這是夢幻，這是妄想，這 是奇蹟。」雖然筆者至今還是單身一人，但 寧可錯過都不要愛錯；再者，當今世上好女 生似乎不多，單是「港女」這個詞語已經足 以令筆者卻步。這個目標，當真不可強求， 只可靜待緣分把那個「她」給筆者帶來 結語 作為第一份校報的文章，分享點到為止，日後的文章假如同學們賞面， 筆者自然願意分享更多。希望大家都喜歡筆者的文章，當然如果同學對筆 者的文章有任何意見的話都歡迎同學電郵或來信。在此再次謝謝大家願意 花時間閲讀文章，筆者祝願大家在新的學年就像《光陰的故事》中的歌詞 所言．「流水它帶走光陰的故事，改變了我們。」 從過去的光陰和經歷中成長，把握機會、燃燒青春，共勉之I 圖片Paolo Nicolello / 來源I Unsplash

別了 慘綠青年 一灣波平如鏡的清水、一座振翅高昂的「火 雞」． 我最不耐煩的，是對大學生活的幾句 概括。最堂皇冠冕的試圖，都難掩霸道的本質， 把那多元而生動的萬千面向擠壓一團，而那被 掩埋的許多特質又時常群起反抗，高舉着自己 的旗幟宣揚着自己的重要。其實，大家都是卑 微的枝節，那眾多的渺小匯聚成流，便成了偉 大的氣象。 終於到了第二年。那些快樂的、困惑的 事，時常縈繞在心頭。回想起來，如果重新來 過，或許很多事都能有所改善。Reg 科那天丶 考試那日，早點起床的話，今天或亦不至如此 營役。面試那刻、開會那時，如果認真少許， 結果也當大有不同。那些不認識的人和事、仍 會在科大迷路的年輕，在年間亦逐漸演變成第 二天性。不經覺間，原來我也成長了不少、對 「大學」這回事又認識了不少。中六和中五 或許分別不大， 但是Year 2 和Freshman 相比 卻大有不同。有説人生講求深度而非長度，或 許就是新的歷練給人帶來超越年歲的成長。

還記得上中文課時演講的年少輕狂、記 得和女友在海邊仰望星空的那晚、為MATH 1013 一夜白頭的辛酸、到後來上了莊，開始 打起通宵麻雀來、還有不知那時起把所有不計 Attendance 的科目走清光、寫信給professor 求龜的那日、做起人生第一份實習、在三天 OCamp 中合共睡了四小時、室友喝醉酒入院丶 死守Dean's List (失敗）的那些無眠夜． 點滴 在心頭，許多當時自覺難以負擔的事， 回首看來， 也不過滄海一粟。 機緣巧合地結合起來、沒有一個突出的主體， 南轅北轍又互相輝映、三教九流又各自呼應， 雜亂無章的各種小事，靜靜地展現着大學生活 的無限。別了！當初慘綠青年啊。新來的那個 塵世間的迷途小書僮，還有三年要熬呢！

國際化

我們從小到大不知道默寫過多少遍「香港是一個 國際大都市」，無獨有偶，科大也以「园際化的研究 型大學」自居。那到底甚麼是國際化呢？國際化，意 指多於一個國家的事情。説到香港， 我們會從美食天 堂、中西節日和營商環境絕娓娓道來，提起科大，我們 可以窮舉教學模式、國際師生比例和大型活動。可是， 這些量度的水準高是否足以反映我們是「國際化的研 究型大學」？筆者認為在本地人和國際生之間的交流 還可以做得更多還有更好。誠然，作為本地學生，即 使不交外地朋友，也可以好好生活，筆者並不是想説 我們正處於危急存亡之秋，非與國際生交流不可，只 是想建議一種不同的大學生活。大部分學生面對國際 生，只是礙於幾座小山丘，講不出聲。以下的一些意見， 望抛磚引玉， 集思廣益。 未能流暢使用英文乃本地生怯於開口之 主因。過往十餘年，我們習慣於看英文、聽英 文、寫英文，但不常説，我們經常做英語考試 卷，但不用英語聊天。英語經常充塞於腦袋之 間但不常輸出，我們跟英語的關係就是那麼微 妙。然而，每個經歷過公開考試的科大人都具 備跟外國人溝通的能力，真的不行還有罐頭句 子吧？我們並不需要待出國交流或者畢業工作 後才知曉，原來説英語是那麼簡單，他日回首 只能後悔沒有更早認識這個東方之珠以外的洞天。 很多人怕自己的英語不夠純正自然， 不想開口。 但你可曾見過非廣東話母語者把廣東話説得跟 你我一樣流暢？承認吧，我們都不能在短期之 內説得地道，但會越説越好。況且開口目的不 在於炫耀，而是在於會意，跟你面前的人溝通， 僅此而已。

本地中學裏絕大部份都是香港人，跳進大 學後跟國際生－起上課突然感到不習慣實在是 人之常情，但彼方之他們又何嘗不是？筆者過 往就讀本地中學，沒有日常使用英語的習慣， 進入科大後，習以為常的生活圈亦令我不會太 在意國際生，遑論與他們做朋友。可幸的是我 們共同生活在同－個時代， YouTube 、Netflix 、 Snapchat , 運動和音樂都是我們的共同話題， 雖然成長在不同地方，有不同的價值觀， 但我 們的興趣以至生活習慣可能是共通的。由興趣 入手不見得不是建立聯繫的一個好方法。筆者 在大學偶然認識一個印度師兄， 比我大一歲多， 之後竟在演唱會上面，原來同樣是喜愛這隊 樂隊，即使沒有朋友相伴也要單刀赴會。相談 之下，發現彼此同樣為公開考試放下羽毛球， 將來希望從事的工作也很類似，之後更相約打 羽毛球。學校學業固然繁忙，但總要忙裏偷閒， 有着不同的娛樂活動，坐在你旁邊的外地生， 可能跟你有着同樣興趣， 大家只是欠－個開口 的機會。 Campus 「讀萬卷書不如行萬里路」，在很多人看來， 是指旅行出走比讀書學習更重要。然而此話實 有另一番解讀讀萬卷書是指透過學習概念獲 得知識，行萬里路是指透過實踐某項活動啟發 新知，後者更具有真情實感，不一定要到外國 才可以了解當地文化。這是因為文化不僅僅是 知識，需要在過程中積累起跟自身生活相關的 知識或經驗。但是很多時候到外地觀光吃喝， 不僅時間短而且行程趕，只顧得囫圇吞棗，除 了拍照和在社交網站打三兩句感言之外，輸出 的機會並不多。相比之下，與國際生在宿舍促 膝長談，以局內人身份回看自己國家，或者是 同一件事情，大家以不同背景評論之，會產生 多少火花！另外參與彼此有興趣的活動，相互 交往，這些交流會產生更多活潑的畫面，從他 們口中對外國文化會有更獨到細緻的認識。

香港是－個彈丸之地，而且處於中西文化 交匯之地、風高浪急、變幻莫測。作為香港人， 我們可以如何自處？欲迎接浪潮逆流而上，還 是淹沒在國際化的浪潮之下？跟你－起上課的 內地生，住在你宿舍隔壁的韓國學生，僅僅是 國際生的冰山一角，日後接觸外國人的機會只 會愈來愈多， 我們為什麼不可以放開懷抱，擴 大自己的社交圈子？我們容易和自己生活模式 相似的朋友形影不離，卻忘記了校園的另一邊， 佔所有學生37% 1 的非本地生。大學引入國際 生的原意是希望擴闊本地和非本地學生的視野， 生活在地球上的還有很多人説其他語言、有大 相逕庭的消閒娛樂和對將來有截然不同想法的 年輕人。若果大家的發展像兩條平行線，從不 交接，那甚麼國際化數據啊，師生比例啊，都 只是聊勝於無、流於表面。 包括本科生及研究生· 另外我想説説關於香港特色的問題。香港 這個地方的發展歷史是地球上罕見的，在特別 的時間，特殊的地點，百年之間從小漁村搖身 一變成為國際大都市。中西文化薈萃是我們的 特色， 亦是我們的烙印，大部份的香港文化都 是建築在這點之上。可是，我們不全然是幸運 的。由於揚名天下得太快以致未能形成自己獨 特穏固的文化（這不也是科大的現狀？）。國 際化的發展可以説和我們唇齒相依。我們有沒 有想過把自己的文化或者生活方式介紹出去？ 從外地生看來，他們千里迢迢從自己的地方來 到這個東方之珠，不只是花個三、四星期，去 個畢業旅行， 而是花上人生最為青春燦爛的三丶 四年光景，來科大求學。誰不想了解香港，認 識本地生，尤有甚者，當香港是第二個家？離 開舒適圈，作出這項決定，遠道而來所需要的 勇氣並不容易。作為東道主的你我，對這幫同 齡留學生又會否能多盡地主之誼？

台北市市長柯文哲曾言「什麼是國際化？ 國際化不是把城市化妝，改造到連我們自己都 忘記，我們的家原來長什麼樣子。國際化應該 是從城市規劃、軟硬體以至於市民，面對外來 的人事物時，都能夠有開放的氣度跟善意，把 台北最好的特質散播出去、讓外國人尊重，而 且覺得這是他們無法取代的價值，這才叫國際 化。」這是一個理想中國際化城市的參照，但 對於大學來説亦不無參考意義。筆者覺得最重 要的是校園裏同學有開放的氣度和釋出善意， 大家參與各自舉辦的活動，成為真正意義上的 朋友。筆者並不是為科大在排名上再創高峰努 力的打手，而是單純從學生出發思考怎麼才有 －個更難忘暢快的大學生活，將來又可以融入 更國際化的環境之中。

迎新營上，全組新生一起聨天。 'Hello, I am Alvin:' 'Hi, it is Johnson:' 'Hi Johnson, make yourself at home!' Lifestyle 睽闊的夢 不過，相信你我身逞曾經仍然有不乏敢於 去追夢的朋友或同學，他們大多被世俗所嘲笑 着，又或自我戲謔着，皆因夢想看似不設實際， 不務正業。因為旁人皆受到自身對社會的認知 或環境的大氣氛圍等局限性， 對夢想的可行性 實際經濟利益等作出批判，那也是正常的。也許，基於各種原因，我們曾被嘲笑或嘲笑別人，設身處地地感受一下，其實那並不好受。故而 希望大家對於不同顏色的夢，即便是帶有銅腥 味的，也請尊重他們，尊重自己。

但到了束髮之年，我們開始有意識地 知道，有－ 個名為文憑試的挑戰在不久的 將來等待着我們畫。． 那時的我·們仍然．有夢 想，可是，開始有了＿ 些限制，被現實所． 限制。在現今汰弱留強的社會裏，看似 只有入讀大學才是唯一正道， 。因為一紙文憑， 一紙天書，限制了我們的夢，漸漸，每一 個 人開始發着同—個夢，一個合符現實的夢 考取學位。 而部分「同床異夢」的人，如想當 歌手的、藝人的、廚子的、工人的、作家的， 也許因為「道不同不相為謀」或是「非我族類， 其心必異 而遭到嘲笑。漸漸地，他們便不再提起他的夢 剩下的只是同一副本的夢 可是夢是獨特的 「你不能做我的詩，正如我不能做你的夢」 — 胡適《夢與詩》

午夜夢迴，汗流浹背， 今夜終於有夢了。 而你最近發過的夢在何時呢？昨晚嗎？還是 因為密密麻麻的生活已經失去它？也許在 這紙醉金迷的石屎森林下，變得有些奢侈吧？ 大概很久了，身邊友人已沒有跟我夢了，徒 留下了遊戲、學業、異性等這些話題

在孩提、始齜之年，在「我的志願 —文中，我們大多也會無拘無束地談到將來的理想 職業，「我要做醫生、消防員! 可以幫助很多 有需要的人，我要做地盤工人， 我要像爸爸－ 樣大隻」，那時的我們敢於發夢、敢於造夢。 在朋友之間，夢並不遙遠，彷如老生常談般嬉 笑着

及至成功入讀大學的莘莘學子們，當我們 想再次回想起兒時的夢，又受到每天每日排山 排海般的襲擊， GPA 的追求、實習機會的爭取丶 人際網絡的拓展，直至畢業，我們也沒有時間 去思考一下，那兒時的夢。再及至投身社會， 也是如此類推．

以上所言，想必早已眾所皆知，又或在各 大「登字」論壇年，一早有人撰寫過類似的文 章，這看似筆者也只是拾人牙慧而己。又或許， 大家在看到標題寫有「夢」的時候， 已經嘲笑 着，心頽筆者必是個「失敗者」或「廢青」。 但是，這些也不重要，我最近經常反思着， 我還年輕，我還輸得起，想做那便去做吧？的確， 夢想歸夢想，我們也是處於現實世界中，但這 兩者並不是 「魚與熊掌」，是可以共存的，在 現實中也可以忙裏偷閒地發－ 個夢，也許那會 使人更疲倦，但畢竟舒服是留給死人的

一個不會發夢的城市， 是十分枯燥的。然， 香港的夏天已經愈來愈炎熱了… …

無雙系列的單機遊戲，如三國無雙，作為不少青少年成長的玩伴， 大家自當耳熟能詳。至於「國士無雙」，想必是同系列的單機遊戲？ 很遺憾！它卻出自於秦末漢初蕭何對韓信的評價「諸將易得耳，至如 信者，國士無雙。」然而，一個二千多年前的古人所評，又與我們何干？ 它又不能帶給我們瘋狂的無雙系列廝殺感？不過，也許它可以成為你 我於廁所，碰巧又連不上無線網路時，一個冥想神遊的主題……

想必「國士」一詞對一般人而言，十分陌 生，也許是因為它在歷屆文憑試未曾有幸現身。 古之「國士」是指一國中最優秀、最出眾的棟 樑之材，能肩負起對江山社稷的責任，是不可 多得的人才，受此美稱亦是－種對「士」的榮 譽。而「士」是泛指知識分子，也是正是閲讀 的你和撰寫的筆者。所以「國士」－詞其實與 我們息息相關，因為我們也是「士」。

然而，重點的是，那如何成為「國士J ? 和成為了「國士」對我又有什麼好處或意義？ 以我愚見，古代對是否能成為「國士」的那－ 套準則也許未必適合於現今社會，同時，現代 人也不會對此重視，所謂「勇、禮、忠、仁丶 智、孝、信、義」，又與我何干？能當牛排吃嗎？ 能當鈔票使嗎？又倘若有人將它們掛在口上， 或奉如家寶，那必將受到眾人嘲笑。因為它們 和這時代格格不入，而在香港，更如是....

筆鋒至此，筆者所撰的已然看似廢話連篇，又説息息相關，又言格格不入……但是，如果 題目是「談國士」的話，那才真是廢話一堆，然而，今天談的是「國士無商」。

如今社會上有部分人，無論是身居廟堂之 位，或學富五車，他們的價值觀、是非觀、人 生觀、世界觀已經充斥着「利益」和「價值」， 功利之風昭然若揭，如病毒般於大眾傳媒、網 絡、學校、職場散播着。人們均採以商業般的 思維模式，用於「有利於已」的行為模式去擇 友、辨對錯、明人事，遇上任何事和人，先以 「追對我又有什麼好處或意義？」去作決定。 我們在每天行動或思考前，仔細一想， 那就會 發現這種利己主義，或許有人已經知道自己很 功利，但仍然沉醉在自己的溫柔鄉中 「功利」二字充斥着人際關係、社會、甚 至是家庭。的確，無可否認，這種思維模式和 行動模式可以使對自己利益極大化，你和我可 以獲得更多、更多、更多。但是，獲得更多又 如何？我們犧牲了與朋友相處、追尋興趣時的 寒窗苦讀，成功考取大學學位又如何？

犧牲了－切，獲得一份高薪厚津的工作丶 甚至位極人臣，那又如何，只不過徒然成為在 別人眼中的－個成功虛影和一塊自我陶醉的鏡 子，也許你我失去的比你獲得的更多，你我永 遠無法知道得失多寡，那還計算什麼？

故而，我們的社會需要以「無商」的思維 行事的「國士」， 可以少些用「利益」來判斷， 可以用更多「情」來立身處世，對身逞的人和 事多些關懷，對家國社稷多些責任感， 也許我 們會有些許「蝕底」， 但是我們可能可以找回 真正的自己， 活得自在舒服些，亦可使如今社 會的病情得以舒緩。這是作為「士」的你我， 一份使命。

「諸金易得耳 至如你我 國士無商」

還記得中學文憑考試在2012 年創立時， 許多同學都因為中國語文科而被大學拒諸於 門外，甚至我們不時聽到有同學六科5** 而 中國語文科取得2 等，人間悲劇莫過於此I 筆者在中國語文科的成績只屬中規中矩，但 對於此科目之見解，筆者認為是熟能生巧， 卷一熟讀文言字詞、卷二慣用主題句、卷三 熟背格式、卷四熟記態度語氣， 一字記之 曰「熟。」緣分來到，自然3 等上岸。因 為同學尚可靠熟能生巧處理，中國語文科的 「死亡科目」地位漸漸被取代，從2012 年 至2018 年，中國語文科的合格率呈穩步上 揚之跡象。相反，英國語文科正靜靜起革命， 合格率不斷下降，殺同學－個措手不及。

和中文不同，大部分同學較少在日常生 活中接觸英文，這無可避免地削弱了他們的 英文根基，對英文科整體成績造成負面影響。 顯而易見地，絕大部分主流學校同學的母語 都是廣東話，唯一接觸到英文的時間只是在 學校英文課和課後補習而已，加上同學在課 堂上的參與程度未必足夠，都大大影響了他 們學習英語的進程。除此之外，中文中學學 生學習英文的情況和英文中學學生的學習情 況更是相形見絀，在這個此消彼長的情況下， 中文中學的學生彷彿注定了跟大學無緣（俗 語有云「公開考試是以拉Curve 來決定成 績。」）退而求其次，留給他們的只剩下副 學士、高級文憑甚至毅進文憑。事先聲明， 筆者絕對不是歧視這類人，而是這個社會上 對學歷階級的普遍定義， 有一個七層資歷金 字塔。語文能力的提升並非一朝一 夕，乃是 需要長年累月的浸淫以打好根基，當大部分 同學接觸英文的時間大幅減少的時候，他們 根本難以打好語文基礎，更遑論在公開考試 中取得好成績， 這個情況下，他們便會不知 不覺地被這個殘酷無情的考試制度所淘汰， 和大學説永別。

這個永別極短，影響卻是－生的，而不 僅是和大學告別！現在的香港，一份普通月 薪10000 多港元的工作竟然要大學生才可以 做， 換言之，非大學生者可能只可以做一些 卑微和厭惡性的工作 筆者並不反對非大學 生的待遇不及大學生，這其實是理所當然的。 毫無疑問，每個人都希望可以一生無休、擁 有完美的人生。然而，經濟學入門第一課都 已經説了． 「Resources are limited, human wants are unlimited」所以為了令資源能得 到有效分配， 唯一的方法就是competition （競爭／比賽）。用考試分數作為 competition method 其實是公平的，某程度 上付出多少就收穫多少（如果這是不公平的 話，大家不妨看看這個社會，實在有太多事 情的付出和收穫不成正比） ，這其實是可以 理解的。

那麼，問題出在哪？那就在於他們的尊 嚴慢慢被侵蝕，而當中原因，只因為他們的 學歷不足。這個城市真是快要瘋狂了，原來 沒有學歷，可以被當作隱形，連普通人的尊 重都無法獲得，工作被上司鄙視、下班被旁 人蔑視、回家被家人漠視。當然，筆者並不 認為這情況發生在所有人身上，但至少有人 的生活就是如此，連人都不是！

他們不僅和大學告別， 更是和尊嚴告別 筆者看到這個情況，實在無法忍受，還 記得電影《葉問2 》中，葉問把拳王「龍捲風」 打敗後，説「即使人們有不同地位，但人 格不應該有貴賤之別。」大學生並非勝利組； 非大學生亦非一定失敗，最重要的是待人接 物和人生方向。談起前者，筆者對於部分同 學的行為，不禁倒抽一口涼氣， 易地而處丶 設身處地，假如你不是大學生，當你面對世 俗人的冷眼旁觀時，你快樂嗎？答案顒而易 見。所以，筆者希望那些同學可以凡事留一 線，在説話前先考慮一下其他人的感受。連 基本待人接物都沒有，大學生又如何？談完 待人接物，接着便是人生方向。為何説「非 大學生並非一定失敗」，就是因為部分非大 學生已經為自己訂下清晰貼心的人生方向， 相比某些大學生，他們肯定有對自己的人生 負責。人生方向豐儉由人，開coffee shop 、 加入政府、做科學家... ... 都可以是人生方向， 有方向，繼而付諸實行，已經是對自己負了 責任。反觀現在有些人，不但沒有為自己 訂立目標，反而不斷對其他人甚至整個社會 加以批評，整天以挑起鬥爭為己任，如此之 景況，難怪會有老一輩説「現在的年輕人 變了。」筆者深信這句話的真確性，社會是 在變，但年輕人心態變化的幅度實為更大。

Lifestyle

葉問説完那句話之後，獲得全場觀眾的 掌聲。事實上，假如現今社會有人説相類似 的説話，應該很可能會有同樣待遇。然而， 掌聲只是代表認同，並不反映在實際行為上。 這樣説好像不太合理，但卻常常在這個社會 上發生，「講一套，做一套J . 的人實在比比 皆是，這邊廂對鄙視非大學生的人動以口誅 筆伐，另一邊廂卻在做相同的事情，是何等 的虛偽。我們有－個名詞，叫做「偽君子」， 去形容這類人。只不過這類人的所為，其實 比偽君子還要假，不敢赤裸裸的面對自己， 不但欺騙別人，而且欺騙自己，虛偽之極丶 懦弱之極。本還以為只有《千王之王2000 》 裏的－個「干王之王」，沒想到這個社會有 那麼多「干王之王J ! 我們該笑，還是該閉 着眼呢？ 「干王之王」是萬萬不能做的，最主要 原因還不是道德行為（説太多道德話語，有 可能會被其他人所討厭， 而且筆者沒有資格 對道德追個詞語説三道四） ，而是因為這個 社會實在太多了，「干王之王」失去了他的 獨特性，筆者還是想做一個普通人，對自己 寬容誠實、對別人寬容誠實，好好的做自己丶 愛自己，真實而且獨一無二。你呢？

生活 行健 明威 知畸 從捨生取義談起

中國有所謂「三不朽」：「立德、立功丶 立言」之説，即人生苦短，行樂享福不過 一時，對社會有所貢獻才是永垂不朽的思 想。如此看輕生命的説法其實在中華傳統 中甚為普遍，蘇軾曰人生「寄蜉蝣於天地， 渺蒼海之－粟」、曹丕説「生有七尺之形， 死唯一棺之土」等，均反複反映中國人輕 視生命而重視功德的淡泊思想。探其根源， 其實亦與「捨生取義」這精神脱不了關係。 「捨生取義」的精神眨抑了生命價值的凌 駕性，將生命視為實踐仁義的工具，而將 對社會的貢獻和功德放在凌駕於生命之上 的位置，其實早在孔孟時期已深印在儒家 的核心價值觀中。

莊子 攢文行腱 明威、知畸 子日．「志士仁人，無求生以害仁， 有殺身以成仁」《論語·衛靈公第十五》， 孟子日．「生亦我所欲也，義亦我所欲也； 二者不可得兼，捨生而取義者也。」《魚 我所欲章》孔曰成仁，孟曰取義，兩者均 以仁義為重，性命為輕；以社稷為重，個 人得失為輕，是貫穿整個中國歷史的中心 思想。從商末伯夷、叔齊「義不食周粟」 餓死首陽山，至戰國屈原不忍楚國腐敗投 河自盡、到宋末文天祥不降元朝而亡、及 至清末汪精衛行刺親王失手被擒赴死不果， 在在反映着捨生取義的精神和所衍生出的 殉國文化。與國同生、與家共死的行為不 但深受民間尊重， 亦被視為最崇高的愛國 表現。文天祥死前言「孔曰成仁，孟曰取義， 惟其義盡，所以仁至」，汪精衛下獄記「慷 慨歌燕市，從容做楚囚。引刀成－快，不 負少年頭」，壯哉！此真豪傑義士也！

但是可別以為「捨生取義」的思想壟 斷了整個中國歷史。面對不公之事，不少 人亦縱情山水逸樂而自快，既然「一切有 為法，如夢幻泡影」，「浮生若夢，為歡 幾何」，官場失意的文人何不退隱江湖？ 何必捨生就義？早有莊子與招他入仕的 官員説「我寧遊戲污瀆之中自快，無為 有國者所羈」（意譯．我寧願像豬一樣玩 泥沙也不願當丞相被你們拘束!) 後有李 白官場失意言「古來聖賢皆寂寞，惟有 飲者留其名」，長沮、桀溺、陶淵明和竹 林七賢等人，不也「捨義取生」， 獨善其 身，但廣受尊重嗎？從筆者看來， 「捨生 取義」固然偉大，但是以道德責人甚為不 妥，筆者也認識不少「Quit 莊」的同學， 或壓力過大、或成眾矢之的，堅持下去固 然「捨身取義」承擴莊內責任，但如莊子 和陶淵明一般撒手而去亦無可厚非。畢竟 「捨身取義」這些危險動作，正因非常人 所能做出，才彌足珍貴、彌足崇高偉大。

現代社會大多比古時文明，「要生要死」 的抗爭逐漸變得沒有必要，但是放棄個人 利益、追求社會公義的行為仍相當常見。 南非前總統曼德拉(Nelson Mandela) 甘 受廿七年的囚禁堅持以非暴力抗爭廢除種 族隔離政策、上月去世的麥凱恩(John McCain) 在越戰期間被北越俘虜，肩膀被 步槍槍托擊碎仍堅拒提供情報，被發現父 親是美軍太平洋指揮總部總指揮官後仍堅 拒利用父親關係提早回國， 最後延遲五年 才回歸故鄉。難道不也是現代「捨身取義」 的偉大行為嗎？

「創，始也。」《廣雅》一字面來看， 創新與模仿完全是對立的。前者獨樹一幟， 後者則是葫蘆依樣。但小至個人行為、大至 科技發展，沒有模仿作為熟悉和發展事物的 捷徑，創新的過程會荊棘載途。

這個時代講求創意，模仿和抄襲等自然 被人嗤之以鼻。但若細心想想，我們今天的 －切又何嘗不是從模仿而來？在有獨立思維 前，我們都是從牙牙學語、模仿身邊人物行為， 又或參考書中的人物故事來建立起自己的世 界觀。模仿是我們認識世界的方式， 沒有通 過模仿，又有誰能自行從零開始發明微積分？ 遑論一種能表達自己的語言？模仿別人過後， 便成為了我們自己的經驗，經驗的累積就成 了我們獨特的處事方式。

學術和藝術的發展亦需要模仿。哲學家 叔本華繼承了康德的物自體看法，並結合自 己的悲觀主義哲學，著成《作為意志和表象 的世界》， 啟發了日後的精神分析學；交響 樂之父，古典音樂時期的作曲家海頓深受巴 洛克時期韓德爾的影響，結合了兩種時期音 樂的特徵創造出新型的和聲演奏。其實，借 鑑別人的成果並加入新想法也是創意，自己 試用原有的東西就是研究它們最直接的方法。 通過親身體驗，通過模仿別人，我們才能「踏 在巨人的肩腈上」完善事物，最後發展出真 正屬於自己的作品。所以，模仿是藝術，亦 是學術和藝術創新中不可或缺的踏腳石。

畢加索 模仿 創新之源 叔本華 或者有人認為個人發展的確需要模仿和 借鑑別人的過程， 科技卻可以只靠天馬行空 的想像力來創造，但其實亦不然。蘋果公司 的創辦人喬布斯曾坦承蘋果＿開始也曾外借 別人的點子來創新，例如麥金塔圖像式的使 用者介面，就是當年喬布斯參觀帕羅奧多研 究中心時得到啟發才想出來的。滑鼠、智能 手機等都不是蘋果公司的原創，但它們能夠 在模仿中改進，注入新意， 已經足以改造出 自己獨一無二的招牌，而非從無到有憑空以作。 其次，從科技發展的經濟層面， 付費使用別 人的開發平台、免除從頭到腳地重新開發－ 套系統，也能讓我們在最短時間和最低成本 下開發產品。

當然，模仿並非抄襲，模仿是抱着練習 和研究的態度去參考別人的經驗。這種態度 能不斷完善、並在最後創造出新產品，而抄 襲只是帶着坐享其成的僥倖將別人的成果據 為己有。就像畫家畢加索所説．「傑出的藝 術家模仿， 偉大的藝術家盜竊。」善用模仿 為自己增值的人，才能有所突破。 振翅 即時新聞 緊貼科大 最新資訊 校園即時 學生會新聞 生活趣事 戴剌蝟 美國隊長 丹普西 The Captain 每一個球季的開始，均象徵着－個時代的 落幕。近幾年，大批耳熟能詳的名字從歐洲球 壇消失，或是離開效力十年，甚至更久的球會。 2015 年有沙維離開巴塞，遠走沙地阿拉伯聯 賽繼續球員生涯； 2016 年，「神奇隊長」謝 拉特轉投美職球隊洛杉磯銀河－年後宣佈退役， 2017 年，意大利傳奇射手「狼王子」托迪卦靴， 結束與母會羅馬25 年的情誼； 2018 年，雲加 離開任教22 年的阿仙奴。當然，這些人所共 知的告別並不是筆者的重點。這次的聚焦點 將會是筆者心目中最成功的旅歐美籍球員一 「美國隊長」丹普西(Clint Dempsey) 。

筆者對丹普西的情意結是由FIFA08 這個 遊戲開始的。當時的筆者不太會玩，剛好讓 我遇到這個超值的球員。最深刻的是我每次 長傳和解圍的時候， 這個平頭裝的球員總是 拿到球，然後展開快速反擊。即使後來擁有 費蘭度托利斯等頂級射手，但丹普西憑着多 樣性的踢法總能擠進筆者的正選名單。當時 筆者只謂這位美國人只是在遊戲中強大，沒 想到他在09/10 球季真的成功帶領富咸晉身歐 霸杯決賽。當季的丹普西表現八面玲瓏，讓 筆者留下非常深刻的印象。就這樣，丹普西 成為筆者每次開季必買的球員。

然而，「美國隊長」丹普西在今年8 月29 日宣佈退役，淡出球壇。貴為在歐洲各大聯賽 中最多入球的美國球員，丹普西固然是國家英 雄。這位美國隊長2004 年在美職球隊新英倫 革命出道， 06/07 球季轉投英超球會富咸，隨 即將這支倫敦球隊由降班邊緣拯救出來，更在 09/10 球季帶領球隊打入歐霸杯決賽，戰至加 時116 分鐘，馬德里體育會由最近效力傑志的 烏拉圭射手科蘭射成2 比1, 富咸屈居亞軍， 但已是富咸在歐洲賽最好的成績。2013 年， 丹普西回歸美職聯，加盟西雅圖海灣者，並在 2016 年協助球隊贏得美職聯總冠軍。 Lifestyle 丹普西的國際賽生涯同樣多姿多彩。美國 隊長總共為美國隊上陣141 場．比賽，射入57 球，為美國國家隊史上最多入球的球員。因 美國並不盛產前鋒，而丹普西有着無限體力， 能傳善射，速度及技術不俗，所以不斷被安 排出任中前場各個位置。不論他是身處最擅 長的中鋒還是左右中場，甚至是翼鋒位置都 能有上乘的發揮。丹普西的激情亦令他備受 球迷愛戴，而對美國足球的貢獻更令他成為 國家英雄。他成功帶領美國國家隊贏得中北 美及加勒比海金杯冠軍，以及洲際國家杯亞軍。 丹普西在世界杯也名留青史，他憑着2014 年 世界杯對加納的入球進佔世界杯最快入球紀 錄第5 位。在該場比賽他只用了29 秒便取得 入球，帶領美國以2 比1 戰勝加納。

近年足球的轉會窗越見瘋狂，樅一億歐元的普巴(Paul Pogba) 到1.8 億歐元的麥巴比(Kylian Mbappe)， 到繭億歐元買一個尼 馬(Neymar Jr.)，每個轉會窗均有大手交易。難然不是所有球 會都有巴黎聖日耳門（俗稱「大巴黎」）的超強財力，但各儸球 會均想盡法子增強實力。例如在8 月頭結束的英超轉會窗中，利 物浦及車路士便一人破門將身價的世界紀錄，分別是六千五百萬的 艾利臣比加(Alisson Becker) 和八千萬的阿列斯巴拿加(Kepa Arrizabalaga) 。但當然，價錢牌和實際能力不一定成正比。這次 筆者的重詁是最令人期待的球員，不論身價、國籍心力。只論能力

8 月21 日早上11 點起飛，卻因時差在溫哥華時間8 月21 日早上9 點到達機場。忍受着時差的我在犯傻忘了要提前啟 動SIM 卡，沒有網絡的情況下還是找到了這個自助式旅館。 自助式旅館是什麼概念呢？我要跟着Host 郵件指示的步驟， 在大門前欄杆上的大鎖中憑着她給的密碼解鎖拿裏面的鑰匙 （圖），感覺有點兒戲。而且除了大門要用鑰匙，裏面的門 都是不能上鎖，直接就可以開，不太安全，也許這種自助依 靠的就是地方的治安環境和住客的自律。

On 21 August, I departed at 11 :00 am, but due to the time difference I arrived at the Vancouver Airport at 9:00 am on August 21. 住宿三人一間， 廚房洗手間都是公寓 式共用的。雖是在Airbnb 找的最便宜的， 但已索價280 港幣一晚， 可見房價高企 一直是大城市的特徵。 Each hotel room is for three people. Kitchen and washrooms are shared across all rooms. Granville Island

生活 Lifestyle I . I University of British Columbia (UBC) Granville Island 從行程圖可見，左邊一個顯眼的標記就是我在琢磨行程 時決定去的第－個地方——英屬哥倫比亞大學(University of British Columbia) 。我在這所大於400 公頃的公立大學看到 的是溫哥華的縮影來自不同背景不同種族的學生面貌，反 映着溫哥華社區的種族包容多元，還有就是幾處代表溫哥華 歷史文化的圖騰，我之後在很多的景點都看到圖騰的身影。 大學裏的人類學博物館是比較出名的景點，不過對人類學沒 什麼興趣的我看到門票的價格（約100 港幣）就沒進去。 As you can see from the map, a mark on the very left is the first place I decided to visit during my journey - the University of British Columbia. What I saw in this public university of more than 400 hectares is the epitome of Vancouver: students with different backgrounds and ethnicities reflect the diversity of the Vancouver community, and there are several totems representing Vancouver's history and culture. Actually, totems are seen in many Vancouver attractions. The anthropological museum in the university is a famous attraction, but 丨 am not very interested in anthropology. After I saw that the price of the ticket (about 100 Hong Kong dollars), I ended up not going in.

我在UBC 遊走的期間遇到了幾件有 趣的小事在我突然看到－群人舉着標 語在高呼口號的時候，發現原來是電影 在拍攝校內示威的現場、偶然看到之前 在香港引起話題的蒙面歌手龍小菌的慈 善表演海報丶還有在校內的日本庭院逛 累了之後，誤打誤撞走進了－個華人論 壇，裏面都是移民到溫哥華的內地人。 我想起機場的指示牌皆是三種語言英語、 法文和中文，可見有不少華人扎根在這 個地方。

During the UBC tour, I encountered a few interesting things: When I suddenly saw a group of people holding a slogan shouting, it turned out that it was the scene of a movie filming. Also, I occasionally saw the charity performance posters of the masked Hong Kong singer Lung Siu Kwan. Later, feeling tired after visiting a Japanese courtyard in the university, I accidentally bumped into a Chinese forum full of mainland elderlies immigrated to Vancouver. Thinking of the signs at the airport that are trilingual: English, French and Chinese, I believe that many Chinese are rooted in this place.

Granville Island 前身是－個工廠區， 之後 轉型成－個集精緻的工藝品工作室、文化表演 和公眾市集於一身的風情萬種的社區。我此行 主要在公眾市集逛逛和在海邊漫步。公眾市集 裏可以買到水果、海鮮、甜品美食、工藝品 等，當時肚子餓的我自然就去了Food Court 填 飽肚子。雖然是景點，但食物價格並沒有更加 貴。我在一角吃着越南Salad Roll 的時候看到 了－家有賣香港地道美食的店鋪， 其中CHOW MEIN 自然指的是炒麵了，可CHOP SUEY 是 我百思不得其解的，你又知不知道這是什麼菜 式的翻譯呢？

Formerly a factory area, Granville Island had been transformed into a fascinating community with exquisite crafts studios, cultural performances, and public markets. My time in this visit is mainly spent in the public market and strolling by the sea. Fruits, seafood, desserts, handicrafts and so on can be found in the public market. Since I was hungry, I went to the Food Court. Despite the location, the prices of food here are not higher than regular prices downtown. When I was eating a Vietnamese salad roll, I saw a food store selling Hong Kong food. CHOW MEIN refers to fried noodles, but CHOP SUEY confused me. Do you know what CHOP SUEY means?

It was seven o'clock after dinner, but the sky in 點才天黑，所以我就決定到臨海的小廣 Vancouver got dark at around nine o'clock, so I decided 場逛逛。走到海邊，這裏的景色絕不 亞於維多利亞港．遠眺海對面的 North Vancouver 吹着海風，聽着街頭藝人唱 的爵士曲，仰望海鷗飛翔，低頭看到－ 艘艘漁船和小遊艇緩緩行駛，很是愜意。 美中不足的是，當天的天空很灰，懶 沉沉的沒有藍天白雲的感覺，後來跟當 地人聊天時才知道是大山火的緣故。今 日－路逛來，只覺此地總會看到多元的 面孔，甚至有幾次聽到廣東話，莫名有 種親切感。

It was seven o’clock after dinner, but the sky in Vancouver got dark at around nine o’clock to go to the square near the sea. The scenery is as beautiful as Victoria Harbour: seeing North Vancouver across the sea, feeling the sea breeze, listening to the Jazz singing by street performers, looking up and seeing the seagulls flying, looking down and seeing the fishing boats and yachts slowly driving. The whole scenario was pleasing and relaxing The only regretful thing is that the sky was very grey, in a lazy and deep way, in sharp contrast to beautiful blue skies and white clouds. Later, when I chatted with a local guy, I realized that there was a massive mountain fire. Walking around that day, I could always see people from different backgrounds in this place. I even heard Cantonese a few times, bringing me a cordial feeling.

今天用了外國版的Openrice—Yelp 找到－家越南小餐廳吃午飯，之後在往 第－個景點的路上經過了Vancouver Public Library , 於是決定進去看看。一進 門，原來是－個小廣場，再裏面一層才 是圖書館。從廣場商鋪上的布，到裏面 寫着「Trans People Welcome 」的洗手間， 以至於溫哥華一些商店的門口或者街上 的廣告顯示屏的彩虹旗圖案，都顯示加 拿大對LGBT 群體的包容和支持。 I used Yelp, an app similar to Openrice in Hong Kong, and found a good Vietnamese restaurant for lunch. Then, I passed by the Vancouver Public Library on my way to the first spot destination, so I decided to go to the library and have a look. Once I entered the main door, it turned out to be a small square, and I needed to enter an inner door to get into the library. From the fabrics on the square shop and the washroom with the words 'Trans People Welcome''. to the rainbow flag pattern on the doors of some shops or on the street, Canada's support for the LGBT community is brightly shown.

2. I Grouse Mountain 失策！因為地理位置的關係，一海 之隔的北溫哥華通常比溫哥華還要冷， 加上這個景點在山上就更冷了，和住宿 地區的溫差達13 度。所以上山前真的 該先查好當地溫度，不然就會像我一樣 在坐完纜車上山之後， 要硬着頭皮挨冷 參觀了。在只有11 度的天氣下，不知西 方男生是皮膚比較厚，或是和我一樣忽 略了溫差之大，有不少都穿着T 恤和七 分褲。

Unwise me! Because of the geographical location, North Vancouver is generally colder than Vancouver. As this attraction is on the mountain, it was even colder, with a temperature difference of 13°C from my accommodation area. Therefore, it is essential to check the temperature before going to distant attractions. Otherwise, you would end up being like me having a hard scalp and a cold visit after going up the mountain by the cable car. In the weather of only 11 °C, I did not know whether the Western boys were stronger, or they did not realize the temperature difference as much as I do, since many of them wore T-shirts and cropped trousers.

雖然很冷，這個景點是我玩的最愉 快充實的，坐了纜車之餘，還看了一場 Lumberjack Show, 一睹北美伐木工人的 充滿娛樂性的休閒式比賽。除此之外， 山上還能看到兩隻野生棕熊Grinder 和 Coola, 牠們雖然住在圍欄裏，生活空間 範圍比一般動物園的要大很多，所以要 近距離看到牠們也要點運氣l 美中不足 的是， 那天的霧比春天在科大看到的霧 還要誇張，能見度非常低，不然在山上 可以俯瞰北溫哥華，可惜可惜。

下山後已是下午3 點，所以原本要去 北溫哥華的另一個景點的計劃也要再作 安排。北溫哥華臨海是Lonsdale Quay , 也是－個景點，有－個小市集，下午在 市集外看着海悠閒地很是舒心。然後坐 海上巴士回溫哥華唐人街， 街門口有干 禧門，往內走就是包含各種華人美食丶 服飾、理髮服務和社區中心等的華埠。 正值肚子餓的我走進了－家賣點心的店鋪， 看到菜單上的繁體字就直接用廣東話和 －個大媽店務員聊了起來， 原來她也是 香港人，生於旺角女人街， 還聊起了物 價這簡直是我在溫哥華旅遊的痛處 香港唐記包點的叉燒包6.5 港幣－個，而 這裏要2.5 加幣（約15 港幣）一個。我 還記得她得知香港的叉燒包價格後一副 不可置信的表情。最後，念舊的我還是 買了價值10 塊港幣的－小塊白糖糕，算 是緩解下我對香港才沒幾天的想念之情吧。

Lifestyle Although it was freezing, this attraction was the most enjoyable and fulfilling one I have visited. I took a ride on the cable car and watched a Lumberjack Show, a fun and casual game from North American lumberjacks. In addition, I saw two wild brown bears, Grinder and Coola. Although they lived in the fence, their living space is much larger than an ordinary zoo, so it is lucky to see them very closely! A small fly in the ointment is that it was even foggier than HKUST in Spring, thus the visibility was very low. Otherwise, I could have viewed the city from the top. So, it is a bit of pity.

I talked about the prices with her - the pain of my travel in Vancouver: in Hong Kong, Tong Kee Bao Dim, which is a local chain restaurant selling dim sum, sells a steamed bun stuffed with barbecued roast pork for 6.5 HKD, but in here one charges 2.5 CAD (about 15 HKD). 丨still remember her unbelievable expression after she learned about the price level in Hong Kong. Traditional Chinese characters are seen here, and according to the Chinese I have heard all the way in the past few days, the number of people from Hong Kong here should exceed the number of mainlanders since most of them speak Cantonese 生活 Lifestyle 2.3 Gastown 吃完白糖糕，然後在唐人街外的－ 個food court 解決晚飯時，決定了去隔得 不遠的景點煤氣鎮逛逛。種族多元的溫 哥華人－向給我樂於助人和友善的印象， 直到在煤氣鎮－行才看到這裏的另一面。 －出門，天已黑了大半，路上看到兩個 打扮很潮的人因身體碰撞而破口大罵， 又有穿着破爛灰色衣服的流浪漢與我擦 身而過，還看到塗滿塗鴉的墻壁旁有一 群吞吐雲霧的小混混， 雖然當時是深感 不安地徐徐走去景點，但這其實也是一 個開放多元社會的一部分吧， 算是深度 游了一番。煤氣鎮的打卡位是－個蒸汽鐘， 每十五分鐘小響噴氣－次， 到了整點更 會大響一次（例如晚上9 點會大響九次） ， 吸引了不少的遊客等待觀看。鎮的中心 多是酒吧和紀念品點，街道很有西歐小 鎮的特色。

After eating the white sugar cake and having dinner at a food court, I decided to go to Gastown, which is not far away. Vancouver people had left me with the impression of being helpful and friendly, until my travel to Gastown. As soon as I departed, the sky was quite dark. On the way, I saw two people in trendy wearings quarreling because they accidentally bumped into each other. A tramp wearing tattered grey clothes then passed by me. After that, I saw the walls covered with graffiti and there was a group of small punks smoking. Although it was deeply disturbed on the way, it was actually part of an open and diversified society. So I had just seen the other side of Vancouver. A steam clock is a must-visit in Gastown. Every 15 minutes, some steam will be fired. And at the top of the hour, there would be more steam and noises coming out (for example, 9 times at 9:00), attracting a lot of tourists waiting to watch. The center of the town is mostly bars and souvenirs, and the streets are Western European style.

晴朗的－天，我有幸和站在一旁 的地盤工人共賞傳到溫哥華的大 媽舞。 A sunny day In Vancouver, I was fortunate enough to view the 'Chinese aunts' dancing with the site workers standing by.

Day 3 早上再乘搭海上巴士到北溫哥華，到達這個以 建於1889 年，長達137 米的戇索橋為主要打卡位 的景點。在搖搖晃晃的橋上走着，卻感到很安全， 就是總被前面的人自拍很久堵住而感到不耐煩。到 達景點後才知道，走過懸索橋之後的裏面是一片很 大的雨林。在雨林中被參天大樹環繞着，聽着卡皮 拉諾河水濕澀， 深深呼吸微涼清新的空氣，＿大早 遠程而來的疲勞都被這美麗舒爽的大自然＿掃而空。 除了懸索橋(Suspension Bridge) , 位於＿角落的 Cliffwalk 是一段依靠山邊凸出來的－段半圓的道路， 也是公園的大特色，而且更加安全， 不會像懸索 橋那樣搖晃。最近在上網看到電視劇再創世紀的截 圖才發現，這裏正是劇組在溫哥華取景地點之一。

Capilano Suspension Bridge Park 3. 1 In the morning, I took the SeaBus to North Vancouver again and visited the popular spot with a 137-meter-high suspension bridge built in 1889. Walking on the shaky bridge, 丨felt very safe though, and I was impatient when I was blocked by people in front of me taking selfies for a long time. At the attraction, I realized that there was a massive rainforest after walking through the suspension bridge. Surrounded by tall trees in the rainforest, listening to the flows of the Capilano River and breathing deep fresh air, I felt that the fatigue that came from transporting in the early morning had been swept away by this beautiful and refreshing nature. In addition to the bridge, the Cliffwalk at a corner is a semi 一 circular road that is set up from the side of the mountain. It is also a popular feature of the park and seems safer because it does not wobble compared to the suspension bridge. I recently found screenshots of a TVB's TV series 'Another Era' on the Internet. This attraction is one of the scenes in Vancouver. n生 活／ / Lifestyle 3. 2 Canada Place 其實坐海上巴士就可以從窗外看到代 表Canada Place 的五組大白帆。在我最 後一次坐海上巴士回到溫哥華的海邊的 Waterfront Station 之後，就廎便走去The Canadian Trail , 玩一次Flyover Canada 之 餘也可以靜靜欣賞下海景。The Canadian Trail 是一條很長的沿海小道，而裏面的 Flyover Canada 則是很像環球影城的4D 飛行模擬體驗（哈利波特禁忌之旅）， 參加者隨着移動的座椅，看着面前的大 屏幕飛行景象，猶如置身其中，在加拿 大的不同地方飛翔，穿越壯河山嶺、飛 越繁華城市，更看到冰雪和極光的景象， 在短短半小時的飛行體驗就能見識遍加 拿大最精彩的地方。在模擬飛行期間是 不能拍照的，所以箇中精彩就只能親身 體會了。

In fact, in the SeaBus, 丨can see the five fabric roofs resembling sails from the window. After the last time I took the SeaBus ride back to Vancouver's Waterfront Station, I went to the Canadian Trail, enjoyed a sea view very much and went for Flyover Canada. The Canadian Trail is a long coastal trail, while the Flyover Canada is a 4D flight simulation experience similar to a ride in the Universal Studios (Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey), where participants moved with the seats while flying-like scenes on a big screen are shown. The aerial scenes are about places in Canada, ranging from rivers and mountains, bustling downtown, to snowy places and Aurora. You can see the most breathtaking views in Canada in just half an hour of simulated flight experience. Taking pictures are not allowed during the flight, so the excitements can only be experienced in person.

English Bay Beach 3.3 遊完Canada Place , 正值下午六點， 正好可以坐巴士去English Bay Beach 欣 賞日落時分的沙灘海景（這裏大概八點 半才日落）。當地人在這裏騎單車、慢跑丶 散步、打排球、約會和閒聊，和海鷗一 起享受着陽光與海灘，藍天和海風。當 時的美景，一圖勝過千言萬語。 After visiting Canada Place at 6 pm, I took the bus to English Bay Beach to enjoy the sunset (the sunset starts at about 8:30 pm). The locals were cycling, jogging, walking, playing volleyball, dating and chit chatting, enjoying the sun, the beach, the blue sky and the sea breeze with the seagulls. At that time, the scenery can hardly be described in words.

這幾天下來在街上看到加拿大的共享 單車，除了配有頭盔， 更是有固定的擺 放單車的卡座式位置，不然是無法停止 收費的，而不像內地的共享單車般用完 就可隨地放置。雖然有此優點，我本來 想明天在溫哥華Top 1 景點Stanley Park 騎單車遊一圈，可看到價格就打消了這 主意（最低消費58.5 港幣， 一天無限次 騎車但每次不能超過半小時，不然要付 overage fee ，對比內地每小時一塊人民 幣可謂天價） 。

昨天陽光明媚， 各種自然美景盡收眼 底，然而今天早上就開始下着大雨，我 也只好延後Stanley Park 的遊覽，先參觀 臨時找的景點。

4. 1 Vancouver Flea Market 這算是比較有痞子地道風格的跳蚤市 場了。在我付了所謂的1 . 5 加幣入場費之 後，發現當地人都是從另一道門直接進場， 可見那個入場費只適用於真正的遊客。 跳蚤市場只在週末營業，我到的時候是 早上，有不少的店鋪還沒開門營業。

Over the past few days, I saw Canada's shared bikes on the street. In addition to the helmets, there are fixed parking places for the bicycles, unlike shared bicycle in the Mainland where you can park the bicycles almost everywhere. Despite this pros, 丨d 阅not ride shared bikes there even though I originally wanted to ride one in Stanley Park, Vancouver's top attraction, because the price has dispelled the idea (minimum spending is 58.5 Hong Kong dollar, of which you can have unlimited riding in a day but not more than half an hour each time. Otherwise, you have to pay an overage fee, which is far more expensive than the prices in mainland.)

Yesterday, the sun was shining and all kinds of natural beauty were in sight. However, today it began to rain heavily this morning. I also had to delay the visit to Stanley Park and visit the other spots I temporarily chose.

This is a flea market with a typical style. After I paid the so-called 1.5 CAD entrance fee, I found that the locals freely entered the market directly from another door. It can be seen that the admission fee is only applicable to real tourists. The flea market only opens on weekends. When I arrived, it was in the morning, so many shops had not opened yet.

4.2 Science World 本身對藝術和歷史博物館沒甚麼興 趣我決定不去比較有名的Museum of Vancouver 和 Vancouver Art Gallery 反而去了－個科學博物館。由於當天是 星期六，有不少家長帶着小孩來參觀。 在展館裏面和小孩－ 起參觀展品、玩各 式各樣的展示遊戲（裏面真的有很多有 趣的科學小遊戲）的我頓時感覺年青了 不少。相比起香港注重灌輸的所謂STEM 和填鴨式教育，和以考試比人高分，以 求分數為本的制度，我在這裏看到更多 的是注重啟發和寓學習於娛樂，看到了 西方教育者為了讓科學知識更有趣更有 啟發性而下的功夫，也許這就是西方出 產更多出色科學家的原因吧。 逛了＿圈下來的結論是這裏只適合想尋工藝品 類的寶藏的收藏家，因為這裏的便宜貨不是Made in China, 就是不知從何而來的二手貨，難以入手。 如果真的想買點小工藝品紀念自己到此一遊，那麼 手工精緻的戒指是不錯的選擇。 A conclusion I got after going around the market is that it is only suitable for real collectors who want to find handicraft treasures, because the bargains here are either made in China or the second-hand goods that no one know where they come from. If you really want to buy some small crafts to commemorate yourself as a visitor here, then the exquisite ring may be a good choice.

I was not interested in art and history, so I decided not to go to the more famous museums: Museum of Vancouver and the Vancouver Art Gallery. Instead, I went to a science museum. Since it was a Saturday, many parents took their children to visit the spot. In the pavilion, I visited the exhibits with children and played a variety of display games (there are really many interesting science games). I suddenly felt a lot younger. Compared to the so-called STEM and cramming education in Hong Kong focusing on knowledge drilling and skills to ace exams, I see an emphasis on inspiration and learning in a fun way in Western education. That is perhaps the reason why the West produces more outstanding scientists.

獨遊期間難免會孤獨，會有看到 美景卻無人「有福同享」的時候，但 也會更加自由， 不用遷就旅遊夥伴之 餘，也會有更多時間觀察當地風土人 情，更深度地了解一個地方， 而且遇 到難題也只能靠自己解決，讓自己變 得更勇敢獨立。所以實在不必在意某 些人覺得獨遊是「毒」，是找不到朋 友的狹隘眼光，因為獨遊往往會見識 得更多、體會得更多 4.3 Stanley Park 最後參觀的景點是佔地面積達 4 平方公里，比溫哥華市中心(3.75 平方公里）還要大的Stanley Park 。 裏面有－個水族館，而打卡位有圖騰 柱和Vancouver Seawall 。裏面其實就 是－大片樹林，相信如果在秋天觀賞 到滿天紅紅黃黃的楓葉，必然是－壯 觀美景。下午在海邊散步，下着細細 綿雨，海風吹着還是頗涼的。中途還 看到－ 對新人在海邊取景拍照，之後 又看到另一對新人在公圓裏舉行婚禮， 可見這個Top 1 的景點是「美貌」和 地位並重。 / Lifestyle The last attraction I visited in Vancouver was Stanley Park, which covers an area of 4 square kilometers and is larger than downtown Vancouver (3.75 square kilometers). There is an aquarium inside, and there are some totem poles and the Vancouver Seawall. It is actually a large forest. There will be times when you see the beautiful scenery but no friends to share the joy with, but you will be more carefree at the same time because there are no travel partners to take care of. Then, you will have more time to observe the local customs deeply. And when encountering problems, it can only be solved by yourself, making yourself more independent and braver. Therefore, it is really unnecessary to care about naive thoughts that solo travelers are those who cannot find a friend, because solo travelers will often see more and experience more. My smartphone is broken. The only quality that I share with my broken phone, is that I am broke. Thus, for both financial reason (i.e. not just a bit hard up) and realistic reason (i.e. laziness), I have no intention and thus did not seek for a replacement.

Among all the random stuffs in my huge pile of toys and gadgets, I found the toughest element ever existed in human history. The masterpiece by a Finnish company that make boots. Primary function is as weapon to wreck everything/protect you from bullet. Secondary function as Snake Xenzia. Tertiary function (and the least important function) as dialing the number. Ladies and Gentlemen, introducing - NOKIA Not-3310 (now perhaps known as HMD). It takes me quite a while to fit my nano-sim back into the full-size sim slot. Anyhow it works. At least I can make and answer phone calls without a cable. Sounds like the definition of mobile phone. With arguably one of the best old-school arcade game ever created (probably second to Tetris - possibly the only winner of USSR triumphing over its US counterparts in all field at Cold War), it makes life soooooo goooooood.

Well, that was once a food for thought when I first turned to functional mobile phone from my broken smartphone. Since Steve Jobs introduced us with the beautiful !phone, our ife seems to be so undetachable from our tiny monitor in our palm. Everything happens so quickly on internet, and our smartphone is just but the most convenient terminal to gain access to all these information. In this age of information overflow, there are not just fake news, content farm, and clickbait, but also lnstagram posts from someone you are not even acquainted to, random discussion of a nonsense issue on Reddit, and communication in a Whatsapp group that has nothing to do with your life. Everything is happening between our hands with our precious time going out of our hands. But think about this: if you are not directly contacted through phone, maybe the matter is not that urgent after all. Without everything connected to your phone, there are still ways to get connect to these social media. There are always a Windows/Mac substitute on your computer, if not, an Android Emulator can get everything else done (unless you are a Apple fan). Steve Jobs might have introduced minimalism in tech industry. But we can actually introduce minimalism back to our life by keeping some of these tech away. A bit. From phone to computer(?). 直到面前的兩個黑影都停止了動彈，我仍不知發生了什麼，呆呆地 在一旁看着汙濁的液體緩緩向我流淌。

頭頂上方的聲音透着鼇訝地説，看來運氣有時能戰勝基因呢。 我抬頭， 一張白淨的臉凝視着我，半珦才命令道快去吃了蠍子和蜘蛛。 見我不動， 那個聲音又説， 快啊，吃了它們你才能成長。

喂，聽不懂嗎？難道説那張白淨的臉一點點放大，目光不知落 在了何處。我看着那－開一合的嘴，就像是撕裂的黑洞一樣令人感到恐懼。

突然頂上傳來了巨大的聲響，有一輪巨大的柱體慢慢降落，然後破 破爛爛的兩個黑影被柱體伸出的東西夾住，緩緩移到了我面前。

多虧了蠍子的頑強，不然你已經被蜘蛛吃了。頭頂的聲音帶着些許 慶幸地説。不過畢竟也已經被吃了一部分，蠍子再強也只能含恨跟蜘蛛 同歸於盡了啊。 所以， 你就不要浪費它們的犧牲，吃了吧。 死亡若是無法給別人帶來利益，那就毫無價值了。

我聽不懂那個聲音到底説的什賑，也無法思考自己是否應當吃眼前 的兩具屍體，可是我知道，如果我再無動作，那個巨大的柱體就會夾着 屍體強硬地塞進我的身體，不管我的身體是否會被撐破。

吃就對了，那個聲音説。我對你，始終是有私心的。

可即便她現在出現，我也不可能去進行吞噬。

到底是為什麼我會一直認為自己是怪物，我驚恐地伸出了自己止不 住抖動的手一一－有着纖長的五指和汎着青的血管。

她沒有出現的時候到處都是令人窒息的黑暗，我向着已經沒有了呼 吸的身影伸手，驚懌地發現自己的下半身沒有了知覺，只能感受到無止 境的顫抖，仿佛整個世界都在劇烈地震動—般。我甸蔔着靠近。

觸及之處是一片已然冰冷的柔軟，那無疑，是和我—樣，和她一樣， 是人的皮膚。

耳邊驟然響起撕心裂肺的咆哮，聲音透着幾分熟悉。

懷有後代的科學家們都會在心中祈禱，希望自己不要懷上雙胞胎， 否則將會是激烈的抗爭。樂園中雙胞胎誕生率很低，二代科學家也不希 望自己的孩子淪為慘無人道的實驗體。可天意弄人，對外面的世界最為 嚮往的兩個二代科學家有了—對雙胞胎孩子。 在短暨的悲痛過後，他們決定以此為契機尋求逃離樂園的方法。 他們開始造假孕期報告，在實驗室中修改物資數據並悄悄地納為己有， 他們選擇了－個荒涼的湖泊作為逃離的起點，在湖泊下建起了連通海域 的基地，他們招攬了幾個志同道合的二代科學家，相互幫助，順利地在 樂園的「禁止相互干涉實驗」的自由前提下將逃離計劃推進到了尾聲。

當年以死胎矇混過關、被科學家們藏在基地裏的雙生子在樂圜毫不 知情的情況下逐漸長大成人。就在大家以為就快能離開的時候，這群二 代科學家中有－位孕婦被她的父親抓去了實驗室。

這位懷孕的科學家非常喜歡基地裏的雙生子，所以也跟丈夫商量過 創造屬於他們的－對。而十分關心女兒的父親則背地裏偷偷地關注着女 兒的懷孕情況，直至他查出了雙生子的胎像。 那位父親是非常支持基因優化計劃的初代科學家之一，絕不容許有 人忤逆，哪怕那是自己的女兒。

所以他驅她進了實驗室，並將她麻醉綁到了手術檯上。

他強行將她的孩子從子宮中剝離，並送去了人體實驗室，從此與她 的父女關係也宣告斷。他無法忍受不遵守規則的孩子。

而她也無法忍受樂園中的冷酷與殘忍。準備好了炸藥，她希望能至 少終止那些道貌岸然的實驗，卻被早有防備的科學家們掃射至死。

她的父親走上前看着她死不瞑目的臉淡然道，我太瞭解你。 看着你三四十年，遠熟悉過所有的實驗體。 哥哥，我們衹能留一個。 074

終於狼狽地逃到了基地，她的臉髒得看不清樣子，眼睛卻明亮異常。 我摸了摸她的頭，牽着她走進我們生活了二十年的地方，從此無須 再躲藏。進入到最底層的船艙，我們沒有看到那個熟悉的潛水艇，什麼 都沒有，原本連通海域的水庫放着許多倍大的玻璃缸，綠色粘稠的液體 中沉浸着我們熟悉、卻不再生動的臉。

她的喉嚨裏發出了絕望的嗚咽。

沒有什麼對與錯，那個女科學家愛着基地裏的雙生子本身沒有錯， 她希望擁有自己的孩子也沒有鍺，她貼身帶着那對可愛的雙生子的照片 聊以慰籍也沒有錯，可偏偏她死在了冷漠無情的初代科學家面前，偏偏 死的時候也沒想着丟棄或藏起那張雙生子的照片。其實如果要説錯，早 在那對雙生子降世的時候就錯了，若要追究責任，這個樂園本就是最大 的錯誤
