New Appointments Visiting Faculty Annual Newsletter 2018 Dean’s Message Faculty After serving as Head of the Division of Social Science (SOSC) for the past five years, I am honored and re-energized by the opportunity to lead the School of Humanities and Social Science (SHSS). Since assuming the deanship on July 1, my priority has been to get to know colleagues in the Division of Humanities (HUMA) and the Center for Language Education (CLE), and re-configuring our space to foster school-wide identity and collegiality. The faculty, staff, and students of SHSS bring diverse strengths to our community. This newsletter provides highlights from the 2017-18 academic year. In 2018, 18 SHSS MPhil graduates advanced to PhD programs: 8 in USA, 5 at HKUST, 4 at other Hong Kong Universities, and 1 in Germany. Student PUBLICATIONS In 2017-2018, SHSS PG students, published articles in scholarly journals, including the International Journal of Asian Studies, Journal of Contemporary China, Stedelijk Studies, and Chinese journals such as 當代電影. They also published chapters in academic volumes including English language books published by World Scientific and Palgrave Macmillan.
