I am sorry that I am not able to be with you on this momentous occasion, but I hope and expect that our paths will cross in the future. We are proud to welcome you into the world community of more than 40,000 alumni of the Kellogg School. You join an ever-growing cadre of global management program alumni, along with your peers in Evanston, at the Recanati School in Israel, and at the Otto Beisheim Graduate School of Management in Germany. I trust that you have fond memories of meeting them at the Allen Center in Evanston. It has been our experience at Kellogg that the bonds formed in intensive learning sessions, such as the program you have just completed, provide a lifetime of contacts and networks. With the newest technology being employed in all of our Kellogg programs, our students and alumni can be in immediate contact with each other in all corners of the globe. In our inter- reliant world of business, these contacts will increasingly become more essential to success. Nothing pleases me more than the success of our graduates. You and your families can be proud of your hard work, and your commitment to learning while maintaining the heavy responsibilities of family and business life. We are grateful to your families for their support. And we can all be grateful for the vision of the faculty and administration of HKUST. They recognized the potential for such a global program and continue to expertly meet our customer’s expectations. I would like to thank Acting Dean K.C. Professor K C Chan Acting Dean of School of Business and Management The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology To the KH04 EMBA Graduation Class: Congratulations to all 51 of you on your successful completion of the Kellogg-HKUST EMBA program! Now in its 5th year, this partnership program has gone from strength to strength in terms of the recognition, and at the same time, the size and profiles of the student body that .it attracts. Diversity remains a key feature of the program. This graduating class represents 13 nationalities and 14 birth places, with some 30% working outside of Hong Kong during the course of the program . The industry backgrounds of this same class are equally diverse. There arc accountants, bankers, communications professionals, consultants, entrepreneurs, financiers, retailers, technology expects, and also a non-government organization administrator who promotes animal welfare. The diversity - in cultures, personal backgrounds and job functions - contributes to an exciting and dynamic learning environment. Many of you have told us that it is one of the most important features in our program, probably as important as the strong teaching from the faculty. I have no doubt that the experience you have gained from your participation in this program and the knowledge that you acquired through learning from our professors, and from among yourselves, will continue to be valuable assets in your future endeavors. I want to thank Dean Dipak Jain for his great support, the faculty from both Kellogg and HKUST for delivering a top-notch program and Steve DeKrey, Director of the K-H program, for recruiting a great class and for running the program. Lastly, I want you to know that you have contributed Significantly in building and maintaining its reputation through your support and participation. Let me begin with congratulations. First, to the families and sponsors, who have valued education offered to this class and who have supported you through 16 demanding months. Second. to the two partner schools represented here today by Deans Chan and Jacobs. They have dedicated themselves to preserving what is best of the past and preparing you for future boldly and competently. And finally, congratulations to the graduates of Class Four. You have successfully accomplished a major milestone in your management evolution. After you joined this program it became clear that you would set your own high standard. One of your classmates calls you the best of the best. I support that notion as you have proved it to be true. While we have already celebrated your achievement very informally allow us to do it formally today. I am not sure any class could ever recreate the energy and enthusiasm shown at the American Club celebration. Contrast that night with the work you have put into your classes and the care and dedication shown in your Class project in China and you see why you are the best of the best. You are balanced and the quintessential work hard play hard people! The kind I enjoy working with. What you have achieved will be with you forever. When you think back on the times you spent here and in Chicago know that YOLI have earned the right to claim alumni homes at two distinguished business schools.
