Prof Genzel is Director of the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics, Germany. He is awarded the 2008 Shaw Prize in Astronomy in recognition of his outstanding contributions in demonstrating that the Milky Way contains a supermassive black hole at its centre. In this lecture Prof Genzel discussed measurements over the last two decades that prove the existence of a massive black hole in the Center of our Milky Way. He also discussed how the cosmological evolution of massive black holes and galaxies appears to be intimately related.
